General

The ISV Siem Moxie is a unique Installation Support Vessel specially

designed and equipped to allow quick and safe “walk to work” access

to offshore installed assets. The vessel provides a reliable platform

for offshore wind farm operations including installation, repair and

maintenance operations as well as technician accommodation and

transport.

The vessel design is based on an SX 163 design to meet todays and

future demands of the offshore wind industry.

The vessel is environmentally friendly with a focus on low fuel

consumption and has been designed in line with DNV-GL’s Clean

Design guidelines.

With its optimized hull form, including the X-bow shape, sophisticated

propulsion system, 3D motion-compensated knuckle boom crane and

active motion-compensated personnel transfer gangway, the vessel

is optimized for working in demanding weather conditions. The vessel

design is hereby focused on optimal safety, efficiency, capability and

comfort.

The propulsion system comprises speed controlled electric motors

through two Voith Schneider Rudder ECS propeller units, one

retractable thruster and two transverse tunnel thrusters.

In addition to the exceptional active roll-stabilisation achieved by the

Voith Schneider system, a passive roll reduction system is built in.

Description

High standard accommodation is available for 60 persons with low

noise levels. With its optimized hull form, including the X-bow shape,

sophisticated propulsion system, 3D motion-compensated extendable

boom crane and active motion-compensated personnel transfer

gangway, the vessel is optimized for working in demanding weather

conditions. The vessel design is focused on optimal safety, efficiency,

capability and comfort.

The propulsion system comprises speed controlled electric motors

through two Voith Schneider Rudder ECS propeller units, one

retractable thruster and two transverse tunnel thrusters. In addition

to the exceptional active roll-stabilisation achieved by the Voith

Schneider system, a passive roll reduction system is built in.

The vessel’s main services/duties are:

Support of installation, repair and maintenance services on fixed

offshore structures and other offshore installed assets.

Safe transfer of personnel from a fixed structure to the vessel and

vice versa.

Safe lifting operations of up to 5 tons to and from a fixed structure.

The vessel is fitted with:

Active motion-compensated personnel transfer gangway. 3D motion

compensated and extendable boom crane.

Uptime Active Motion-Compensated Personnel Transfer

Gangway

An offshore access gangway (transfer system) is installed on the

C-deck mid-ship. The transfer system is based on an active motion-

compensated gangway system and can work in various modes.

Access to the transfer system is arranged directly from the C-Deck

on a permanent basis thus allowing for easy and safe access of

personnel.

Siem Moxie has been designed to operate in up to 3.5m significant

wave height for transfer of personnel to and from foundations as well

as the transfer of goods from the vessel to foundations using the 3D

motion compensated crane based on class requirements for the area

of operation.

MacGregor 3D Motion Compensated Crane

The vessel is fitted with a three-dimensional (3D) motion-

compensated extendable boom crane on a newly designed pedestal

base, situated on the aft B-deck along the vessel centreline. The

compensating base can be locked allowing the crane to be used as a

conventional offshore heave compensated pedestal crane.

The crane capacity is SWL 5 t at 25 m outreach and at a hook-height

of 30 m above sea level. The crane can typically be used to place 10’

container or suitable pallet and box loads on offshore foundations or

platforms or on unmanned offshore installations.

In addition the crane includes a man-riding function in order to address

both MEDVAC and gangway contingency operations.

The crane, which has a hydraulically-tilting foundation, is mounted

at the centre point of the vessel. Although all areas of the vessel

experience the same angular movements in a seastate, positioning

the crane at the centre of the vessel minimises the actual physical

displacement of the crane and its load. The crane’s tilting foundation

compensates for pitch and roll, maintaining the crane pedestal vertical

with respect to the vessel movement; active heave compensation

provides the third degree of stabilisation.

The crane complies with NMD Regulations and the ILO 152 for

offshore lifting operations.

A motion reference unit (MRU) is the primary sensor for calculating

heave motion. In addition, a secondary sensor placed at the crane

boom tip is used to verify the MRU’s accuracy and provide overall

redundancy, adding to the system’s safety.
