• Lentini is situated in the east part of Sicily, between two important cities: Catania and Syracuse.

History and traditions.

Leontinoi, the ancient name of our town, was founded by the greek population of Calcidesi in 729 b.C.

They occupied the territory from the valley of St. Mauro to the hill that sourround it: Metapiccola. It was dominated also by Romans, Arabs and Normans, in fact we have ruins of these civilizations.

In the archeological area of Leontinoi we have remains of the greek population. The archeological museum is important too, there you can find classical and hellenistic remains.

One of the most imporatnt buildings is the church in Baroque style dedicated to Saint Alfio, patron saint of the town with Filadelfo e Cirino. Then you can find the caves where the saints where enclosed before being martyred on the 10th of May 253.

And this is the date of the celebrations of the patron saints. During these celebration there’s a particular perpetuation: men and women go barefoot around the historica centeras a form of offering.

The Biviere is a big lake and it’s a protected area because there live different animal species and particular birds.
