Thought Process

• Sibelius - proactive instead of reactive (in Finale you put in tuplets after you input the notes, in Sibelius you do it before…in Sibelius you can input transpositions before you write, etc.)

• Sibelius is written by musicians for musicians and should be a great resource for all of us (once we move past our ‘hangups’ from past software)

Beginners- follow Sibelius projects starting with #1 the Sibelius Handbook (found under “Shortcuts” on the wiki)

Advanced Beginners/Intermediates - go to project #2 and use the 2.2 “scanning” and 3.6 “arranging” lessons. We will use these for our opportunity grant.

HOW TO Op. Grant?

1. Open Sibelius2. Go to the “scanner” which will open photoscore

lite3. Open photoscore lite and select “Open PDF”

(you will need to scan in music using a xerox machine or other scanner. There is a glich with photoscore reading the music because of a program called ghostwriter which we need to have installed and Albert is working on it.) We will use one of the pdfs I have posted on the wiki “Here Comes the Sun”

to make sure it transfers the way we want it to.

11. Go to File then NEW to create a new score that you will be arranging your new version in. (I am arranging this for string ensemble)
