The advantages of using centralized database rather than separate database for each location are: 1. The main advantage of centralized database is that it prevents data redundancy as the entire data is stored at a single physical location. 2. Since the data is maintained at a single physical location so data integrity is maximized and it becomes easy to access multiple data from one primary record. 3. The data security is extensive and more effective as there is only single physical location that holds the data. 4. It is easier for people to access the data from single source and hence move or reuse the data among various applications. 5. The centralized database is very cost effective as the upkeep cost is reduced and also it is energy efficient as it requires less power supply. 6. The data stored at the single location can be easily modified and re-organized. The disadvantages of using centralized database rather than separate database for each location are: 1. Access to database depends on good network connectivity and a slow internet speed would cause inevitable delays. 2. Limited access to the data is another drawback of the centralized database. There is only one copy of data and multiple users trying to access the same copy can reduce the efficiency. 3. If there is no backup facility available then any hardware or software failure would result in complete data loss. 4. Because of data redundancy being minimized, loss of a particular data would require manual efforts to retrieve it.
