Farid Yarullin was lost on the 2-nd Worldwar aged 29 in 1943. It is sorrowfully andtouching to read the list of his works: pianocompressed score of the ballet "Shurale", first

part of the symphony, string quartet, sonatafor cello and piano, three pieces for violin and

piano, some romances and songs The premiere of "Shurale" was held in

1945 in Kazan (orchestrated by F. Vitachek),and since 1950 the ballet was on a stage oKirov (Mariinsky) theatre in Leningrad (St.-Petersburg) many years with great success inorchestral version by V. Vlasov and V. Fere. The ballet is also known abroad, the film on itis shot in Canada.

Freshness and colorfulness of harmony, resilient rhythm and thrilling development ofantastic scenes, the inspired melodies of lyri-

cal episodes, original national colour charac-terize music of ballet.

There were some attempts of creationpiano and orchestral suites from ballet. Theyhad no success. The compilers tried to followthe author's text precisely, but music of ballet

basically consists of short non-closed wellconnected in ballet's through constructionepisodes which resist withdrawing.

But an abundance of leitmotifs, great dealof "scattered" among ballet's music variationssuggest to other way: free association o

various episodes, creation of the new musicalforms on their basis. The pianist Rinat Shakirov (b. 1962) is

known as uncommon and subtle interpretatorof music by J. S. Bach and F. Chopin, there isa lot of modern music in his repertoir.

Shakirov used the second approach in hissuite. This is not formal arrangement of bal-let's music but original author's elaboration.

The Shakirov-performer's characteristicfeatures, such as rapt listening to piano timbrecolor, attention to expressive details, detailedand advisable agogics are reflected in it.

Both originality of the music and pianistshowiness in a combination to relativetechnical simplicity, certainly, should attractattention giving concerts pianists to thiscomposition.
