How Big is My Fish" HR Metrics and the Tale of the Tape
Jim Gallo (@HRPSYCHOLOGIST)
Friday, March 31, 2017 | 10:45AM to 11:45AM
The HR community is o en inundated with the message that
measuring indicators of change and/or success is a necessary evil,
and that “you can’t manage what you can’t measure”. Now the focus
on measurement is so strong that prac oners are concentra ng on
measurement as an end, and not as a means to improve HR systems
and other business outcomes. However, measurement provides li le
value if the wrong measure is chosen for the job. This session will
provide insight on how to match the goals of the organiza on with
the appropriate performance metric and how to determine the
quality of key measurement systems.

Establishing HR in Business Opera ons
Chad Sorenson (@CVSorenson)
Friday, March 31, 2017 | 12:45PM to 1:45PM
The Human Resource Department is not simply a cost center in your
organiza on – or at least it shouldn’t be. The poten al of HR can be
realized only if the HR staff earns the recogni on, speaks the
language of business, and the business realizes the value of HR. So
how do we make this happen? It starts with changing the mindset of
both the business and HR.
Are You Ready for an Alignment? Linking HR Strategy to your
Business Strategy
Karen Gregory (@HRSSConsul ng)
Friday, March 31, 2017 | 2:15PM to 3:15PM
Human Resource (HR) strategy is so much more than employee
sa sfac on and benefits. It is about business growth, increasing
employee performance and controlling costs. The bo om line is that
it’s all about business results. When HR managers iden fy the real
goals of the organiza on and how the organiza on will u lize its
human capital to reach these goals, then, and only then, can the HR
strategy be developed and fully aligned with the business strategy.
This workshop will dive into what it takes for HR professionals to link

It's me for new thinking about what cons tutes effec ve leadership
and how it's measured ‐ one that reflects the reali es of today's
talent‐centric business environment. Our approach differs from
exis ng models in three key ways: performance outcomes are
defined not only in financial terms but also in metrics that measure

Know Your Benefit Numbers
Anjane e Simone
Friday, March 31, 2017 | 8:00AM to 9:00AM
Over the past few years our industry has witnessed an insurgence of
health and wellness providers. The strategy, claim many vendors, is
to encourage employees to “know their numbers”. The storyline
contends, employees who know their cholesterol, glucose, and BMI
will make more informed decisions about their health. Using this
same logic, employers should understand key metrics within their
medical and pharmacy plan to make more informed and strategic
decisions about their healthcare offering.

Manager Onboarding: Se ng New Leaders Up for Success
Sharlyn Lauby (@sharlyn_lauby)
Friday, March 31, 2017 | 10:45AM to 11:45AM
The worst thing organiza ons can do is hire or promote the most
technically competent person to management and not set them up

only achieve one piece of what managers need to accomplish

She Par ed Like a Rockstar, Now What?
Jenni Stone (@HRocksTampa)
Thursday, March 30, 2017 | 4:00PM to 5:00PM
Out of work conduct, such as employee behavior at social events,
personal rela onships in the workplace and recrea onal use of drugs
and/or alcohol by employees has always been a gray area for
employers. Today, employers have the technological means, and
occasionally the inclina on, to find out what workers are doing when
outside of the workplace. However, your right to monitor your
employees' conduct off the job and to make decisions based on that
conduct is limited. If your inves ga on or ques ons invade an
employee's right to privacy, you might end up in court defending
those ac ons.

Employment Rela onship
Jessica Travers
Friday, March 31, 2017 | 8:00AM to 9:00AM
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently issued new guidance
narrowing the defini on of an independent contractor, while the
Na onal Labor Rela ons Board’s (NLRB) new Browning Ferris
decision expanded the defini on of a joint employer. Taken
together, these two developments may mean that your company is
now the “employer” of both 1099 workers and the employees of
subcontractors or franchisees. This event will help you understand
the DOL’s new guidance on independent contractors and the NLRB’s
new joint employer standards, and learn to avoid “red flag” prac ces
that could increase your company’s risk.

Craig Love
Friday, March 31, 2017 | 12:45PM to 1:45PM
ID The is America’s fastest growing white‐collar crime, and if the
security of the company’s customers’, vendors’, or employees’ NPI is
breached for any reason, state and federal legisla on makes the
company liable. Malicious intent by a disgruntled employee, an
illegal hack into the system, or an honest mistake is all viewed the
same. This presenta on addresses how the crime occurs and
provides comprehensive risk management strategies to minimize the
associated risks!
