  • IntroductionSupreme, Purna Purushottam Lord Shree

Swaminarayan manifested upon the Earth toestablish the supreme Swaminarayan Faith. Heremains present within the Faith through Hislineage of ascetic spiritual leaders. Fourth in thisdivine lineage, commencing from Sadguru ShreeGopalanand Swamibapa, was the remarkablespiritual master, Gurudev Adya Acharya PravarJeevanpran Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa.

Gurudev Swamibapa was respectfullyreferred to as ‘Jeevanpran Swamibapa’ - he wasthe life and soul of the disciples. Great scholarsand ascetics awarded him titles and ceremonialhonours in recognition of his prowess and socialreform. The charitable deeds that GurudevSwamibapa instigated were for the benefit of theentire society, regardless of faith, class or creed.Swamibapa taught the world to respect all sectorsof society like one great family.

Manifesting in the twentieth century,Jeevanpran Swamibapa spread the true, essentialphilosophy of Lord Shree Swaminarayan aroundthe world. He was a highly charismatic personality, towards whom thousands were attracted, andthrough him, were able to reach the spiritual path

In 1972, Gurudev Swamibapa sat incontinuous meditation for 61 days, during whichhe received the command from Lord ShreeSwaminarayan Himself to give a physicalembodiment to the eternal, divine throne of theLord, Shree Swaminarayan Gadi. He thenbestowed blessings, “Whosoever remains adisciple of Shree Swmainarayan Gadi, and abidesby the commandments of the Lord, will attaineternal salvation during this very lifetime.”

Gurudev Swamibapa’s divine words ofwisdom bring enlightenment to seekers ofsalvation. They teach a person how to find spiritualpeace and instil God into their life. He taught themanner of living a principled existence that is freefrom vices and addictions. In this manner, he ledcountless souls to the Murti of Lord Swaminarayanand Jeevanpran Shree Abji Bapashree.

    DIVYA VANI

1 Standing on one leg for a period of his 50years and 0.156 days (Vairatnarayan’stimescale), deity Vairatnarayan prayed tothe Master of Akshardham, PurnaPurushottam Lord Shree Swaminarayan.Only then did Purna Purushottam LordShree Swaminarayan manifest within thisuniverse. This timeframe (Vairatnarayan’s50 years and 0.156 days) is equivalent to155,521,350 million human years.

2 The very same supreme Incarnator ofincarnations Purna Purushottam Lord ShreeSwaminarayan, who magnificently presidesamongst His divine Muktas in Akshardham, manifested in Samvat 1837 (1781 CE) ina human form. That very same Lord presidestoday through the form of His idols. Therefore, Lord Shree Swaminarayan ismanifest here through His idol forms.

3 Purna Purushottam Lord ShreeSwaminarayan is forever present(pratyaksh) here. He never becomes absent(existed in the past - paroksh). However, until a person understands His glory, aperception remains within him that theLord does not now preside here.

4 Lord Shree Swaminarayan and His divineMuktas exist forever and will remain forall eternity. If someone has a perceptionthat existed only in the past, then for thatperson, salvation too existed only in thepast. The person who understands thatLord Shree Swaminarayan is forever presentis able to gain salvation.

5 Wherever the Lord exists, that is where Hisdivine Muktas remain. And where the divineMuktas remain, that is where the Lordpresides. Acknowledge that we too are sittingwith them, because this is the definitionof understanding His true presence.

6 If a 2000 tonne iron ball- was droppedfrom the divine abode Akshardham, itwould descend towards the Earth. As it fell,it would collide with particles of air andthese abrasions would disintegrate it moreand more. By the time it reached the Earth,it is unlikely that any part of the iron ballwould remain, because it too would becomereduced to dust. In this manner, from anexternal perspective, the Lord’s Akshardhamis extremely far away. However, from theperspective of the soul, the abode of Godis not even a slight distance away. This isbecause the centre of Akshardham isprecisely wherever the Murti of the Lordpresides.

7 What can be seen face to face is regardedas being present (pratyaksh). At the presenttime, one can visualise the Lord throughHis idol form. The Master of Akshardham,Purna Purushottam Lord Shree

Swaminarayan is present through that form.Through His Sankalp-swaroops (physicalembodiment of the thoughts of the Lord –synonymous to the Lord Himself) andSatpurushs (the Lord’s saintly persons), Heimparts teachings and makes souls worthyof attaining Him. Therefore, it is essentialthat people, relinquish human sentimentsfrom His Sankalp-swaroops and Satpurushs, and comprehend their divinity.

8 Recognising the Lord who presides as ahuman is the biggest of all hurdles. He canbe recognised only through the mercy ofthe Lord or His Satpurushs, but not throughthe knowledge gained from scriptures orthe strength of one’s own intellect.

9 God cannot be realised through the strengthof one’s mind, words or intellect. Suchunderstanding occurs when the Lord or HisSatpurushs imparts divine cognition to theperson.

10 A Sant is he who remains inherent withthe Murti and continuously experiencesthe ecstasy of the Lord’s bliss.

11 We have attained Purna Purushottam LordShree Swaminarayan Himself, who is theMaster of all the Muktas beyond Aksharand is greater than Brahm.

12 The omnipotent Lord has held our hand. That is all due to His unsurpassed mercyupon us.

13 The Lord imparts His bliss in accordancewith the worthiness of the individual. Therefore, one should cultivate one’sworthiness. For this to occur, meditationmust be performed. A person may spendhis entire life listening to scripturaldiscourses and performing other devotionalpractises but without performingmeditation, the affliction of human life willnot be removed, and the soul does notbecome worthy of attaining the Lord.

14 When performing meditation, one shouldbecome focussed and sit in the Swastikasanposture with the body upright. Keepingboth hands on the lap, the focus of the eyesshould remain towards the tip of one’snose. Remaining completely engrossed bythe Murti in this manner, the meditationshould be performed.

15 Becoming separated from the three typesof body; physical (sthool), invisible(shukshma) and eternal (karan), one shouldattribute yourself as being the same as theform of the Lord (Purushottam-roop). Withthe realisation that you remain within thedivine Murti of Purna Purushottam LordShree Swaminarayan, you should meditateon Him.

16 Removing human sentiments from thehuman form of the Lord; and the perceptionthat His idol forms are mere idols, oneshould meditate on whichever sitting or

standing Murti of the Lord that is mostalluring to you.

17 Our most important aim is to performmeditation and become enjoined with theMurti.

18 The state of meditation can be maintainedonly if the glory and divinity of the Lordand His eminent Satpurushs has been trulyunderstood.

19 Whilst the advantages of meditation havenot been understood, a person does notdevelop a liking for performing meditation.

20 If a person is lazy about performingmeditation, it means that he has still notunderstood the greatness of the Satsang.

21 Merely by listening to religious discourses, refinement of one’s temperament cannotoccur. With listening to those discourses, one needs to perform meditation. Onlythen can the glory of the Satsang becomeembedded within a person’s soul.

    SwaminarayanGadi.com

  • 14 DIVYA VANI

22 One should meditate in solitude, meaningthat ultimately, nothing other than theMurti exists.

23 By performing meditation, one’s worthinessto attain the Lord, the bliss enjoyed, andthe lustre of the Lord experienced, isaugmented.

24 In accordance with the ways of the world, obstacles will continually be encountered. However, one should never becomecowardly, and should continue performingmeditation and worshipping the Lord.

25 Through the imparting of spiritualknowledge, Lord Shree Swaminarayanallows us to understand Him and byperforming meditation, He allows us toexperience Him.

26 Whilst performing meditation, one shouldconsider how much of that time has beensuccessful. Is the meditation being

    SwaminarayanGadi.com

  • 15DIVYA VANI

performed properly or are you being ledby thoughts and volitions in differentdirections? Such vigilance should bemaintained whilst meditating. You mustremain careful about not falling asleepwhilst concentrating on the Murti. In thismanner, you should become engrossed inthe bliss of the Murti.

27 When meditating, one should not thinkabout anything other than God. Meditationis the opportunity to enjoy the blissfulintimacy of God. Therefore, when it is timeto meditate, extreme happiness should beexperienced. One by one, you shouldconsider everything other than God to befalse and insignificant. Then, nothing otherthan God remains. That is the definition ofenjoying the close intimacy of God. Whowould not want to enjoy such divine bliss?

28 Whilst a person considers his body to behis own and divine sentiments towards the

    SwaminarayanGadi.com

  • 16 DIVYA VANI

Lord and Muktas have not yet developed, thoughts and volitions will continue toarise when performing meditation. Such aperson will not be able to meditate for long.

29 If thoughts and volitions about things otherthan for God occur whilst meditating then, becoming sincere and emotional, you shouldlovingly pray to God and His Satpurushs. In this manner, you should endeavour toeliminate the volitions and thoughts.

30 Lord Shree Swaminarayan bestows His blissto us each day. He gives His consecratedfood and blessings. However, whilstsentiments remain that the Lord’s Murtisare idols and the Sankalp Swaroops andSatpurushs are humans, this level ofunderstanding cannot be gained.

31 After having appropriately understood thespiritual knowledge of Purna PurushottamLord Shree Swaminarayan, if a person hasformed a resolute determination about Him

    SwaminarayanGadi.com

  • 17DIVYA VANI

then that determination cannot falter inany manner and such a person does notfall from the Satsang. One’s determinationabout Him must be firm and resolute. Thenumber 9 has a special quality that whenit is multiplied by any number, the sum ofthe digits of that resulting number alwaysreverts to 9. In that manner, the number9 never wavers from its origin. In the samemanner as the number 9 remains firm, one’s determination about God must alsonever waver.

32 If a determination about Lord ShreeSwaminarayan has been formed havingremoved all human sentiments andattributing Him to possess only divineattributes; and it is considered that noteven an iota of difference exists betweenthe His idol forms, human form and theMurti that presides in Akshardham then,a firm foundation about the determination

and upasana (manner of worship) has beenforged.

33 Just as a reflection cannot be seen in dirtywater, if one’s heart is marred, the Murticannot be visualised. If thoughts andvolitions occur in a person, flaws arise inhis determination, and human sentimentsstart to be perceived in God and Satpurushs, who he had considered to be the grantersof his salvation then, it should be consideredthat his heart has become marred.

34 Until the arrogance of one’s intelligencehas not been completely discarded, completetrust in the words of Maharaj andSatpurushs cannot develop and till then, itcannot be said that a true determinationhas been formed.

35 Until a firm determination has not beenformed, regardless of the kind of person hemay be, he is susceptible to falter from theSatsang. Therefore, one’s determination must

    SwaminarayanGadi.com

  • 19DIVYA VANI

be absolutely firm. Once a person hasrecognised what a mango tree looks like, someone else may try convincing him thatit is a neem tree but he will never believethe person’s words. One’s determinationshould be similarly firm and resolute.

36 Lord Shree Swaminarayan and HisSatpurushs proclaim, “You have been keptwithin the Murti.” If complete trust in thosewords has been formed from within one’ssoul then, regardless of whether the personcan see it or not, he does actually residewithin the Murti.

37 The person, who acknowledges from withinhis soul that he remains in the Murti, isnot hindered by physical sentiments. Suchphysical sentiments continuously remain inthe person who has not accepted thisrealisation.

38 If someone has profound love for LordShree Swaminarayan, the Lord keeps that

person within His Murti. A person wholoses himself within the Murti is called aSant. By associating with such a Sant, perpetual bliss is enjoyed because the LordHimself works through such a Sant.

39 Having mercy upon us, Lord ShreeSwaminarayan has kept our soul withinHis Murti. Having such a firmunderstanding, you should lovingly enjoinyourself with the Murti.

40 For Anadi Muktas, the Murti itself is thedivine abode.

41 Lord Shree Swaminarayan is eminent, powerful, and omnipresent. His AnadiMuktas too are just as powerful andomnipresent.

42 No-one is more beloved to Lord ShreeSwaminarayan than the Anadi Muktas whoreside within His Murti. The Anadi Muktastoo have affection only for Lord Shree

Swaminarayan. They have no awarenessabout anything other than God. They seenothing else other than the Murti.

43 Purna Purushottam Lord ShreeSwaminarayan wants to impart only thedivine bliss of His Murti. He does not wantto give material pleasures.

44 The roots of sensualities are deeplyembedded, but happiness is attained onlywhen they are completely discarded.

45 Forgetting Lord Shree Swaminarayan, oneshould never succumb, even slightly, to theurges of the sensualities and wish forworldly pleasures.

46 By meditating and worshipping day andnight, one should maintain a constantrecollection of the Murti and in this manner, attain the Murti. Whilst still in this mortalbody, one should experience the ecstasy ofthe Murti.

47 The person with whom the Lord remains, experiences constant happiness, bliss andjoy.

48 All the inclinations of the soul should besevered from all other attachments andjoined to the Lord alone. Then, the Lordwill become pleased and impart Hisbliss.

49 If a person remains vigilant, he can easilymaintain a constant rapport with God,even whilst performing normal activities, such as walking, bathing, eating, drinking, sitting or standing. Therefore, through suchvigilance being maintained, a habit will beformed intrinsically about rememberingthe Murti.

50 Just as a mortal effortlessly recalls his ownphysical form, if the Murti too isremembered without any effort, the personeasily experiences its bliss.

51 If God acknowledges, ‘for this person, no-one else except Me is real’ then, He bestowsunsurpassed joy to the individual.

52 Having affection for anything other thanfor God is merely a futile, worldly confusion.

53 In matters of principles, there can be nocompromise.

54 Allegiance for the Lord must be unyielding. You must be prepared to give up your lifefor the principles, but never be cowardlyin such circumstances. You must remainbrave for the principles and allegiance toGod.

55 Dada Khachar had the virtues ofdetermination for the Lord, understandingof His glory, affection and trust towardsHim. Such qualities should be developedwithin you.

57 Becoming sincere, if one dedicates themind to Lord Shree Swaminarayan and HisSatpurushs then, all one’s endeavours havecome to fruition.

58 By surrendering to a Satpurush, the sins ofprevious births are discarded.

59 Lord Shree Swaminarayan or His Satpurushsmay rebuke a person for inappropriatetemperaments. As a result, if the personstarts to demerit Lord Shree Swaminarayanand His Satpurushs, the entrance to hissalvation will have become shut.

60 Only the person, who abides unyieldinglyto the commands of the Lord and HisSatpurushs, has truly taken shelter of theeternal religious decree.

61 Just as an iron nail can float if it is embeddedinto a wooden plank, if a person abides bybe commands of a Satpurush, he cantraverse the worldly ocean of life and death.

62 A person who is removed from the mortalworld by Lord Shree Swaminarayan andHis Satpurushs never has to endure anotherbirth.

63 If a person does not develop trust in thewords of Lord Shree Swaminarayan andHis Satpurushs, all his efforts for salvationremain futile.

64 The attributes that a person considers toexist in the eminent Satpurushs determinesthe kind of attainment he receives.

65 If a person associates with a Satpurush afterhaving understood his glory, there remainsnothing more to gain. Only those who haveaccumulated the merits of numerous gooddeeds can serve such eminent Satpurushs. It is extremely rare for ordinary people toattain such an opportunity.

66 It is the Satpurushs who can defeat thefrivolities of one’s mind. Therefore, you

should go to such a Satpurush and learnto gain control of your mind.

67 The greatness of Lord Shree Swaminarayanand His Satpurushs cannot be assimilatedby the human intellect. Until the arroganceof one’s intellect has not been destroyed,Lord Shree Swaminarayan and HisSatpurushs cannot be recognised.

68 The glory of Lord Shree Swaminarayan isunderstood only when it is explained bythose who have come from the divineabode. Therefore, one should strive torecognise such individuals and associatewith them.

69 With your powers of discernment, youshould identify those who are endeavouringto attain God and those who are alreadyaccomplished in that elite state. If this isnot done, you may associate with thewrong persons and gain nothing.

70 Without having the utmost of humilitytowards Lord Shree Swaminarayan and HisSatpurushs, one cannot attain His blessings.Divine qualities are attained only by Hisblessings.

71 Whilst divine sentiments have not beenrealised about the Satsang, even thoughyou may be living with the Lord and HisSatpurushs when they are presiding in ahuman form, you will not understandtheir true glory and you will not attainhappiness.

72 God may call out to someone else, laughand jest with him, or offer food to him, butnot interact with you in that way. If thathappens and wrongful thoughts arise, itcannot be said that appropriate affectionfor God has been developed within you.

74 Once you have submitted your body, mind and wealth to Lord ShreeSwaminarayan, His will becomes yourdestiny. You should remain in the mannerthat Lord Shree Swaminarayan wills youto live and experience whatever He desiresyou to see.

75 In order to make them worthy of Himand destroy all passions for worldlyobjects, Lord Shree Swaminarayan createsobstacles for those who He considers tobe His own.

76 My advice is to enliven the path of yourlife and actively lead it towards the Lord.

77 Perform meditation, because this is the wayto develop your worthiness and attain atrue status; and new, constantly rejuvenatedbliss will be experienced.

78 Concentrating on the Murti is not difficultfor those who relentlessly and diligentlypractise meditation.

79 Whatever is done with the remembranceof Purna Purushottam Lord ShreeSwaminarayan’s Murti, is worthwhile. However, if one forgets the Murti, evenperforming spiritual endeavours yield nomerit. It is akin to adding numerous ‘zeros’to a number with no prefixing digit. Therefore, the Murti should remainforemost in everything that you do.

80 Cultivate affection and enjoin with God insuch a manner that you cannot remain afarfrom Him for even a second and then, therealisation that He is forever present(pratyaksh) here remains.

81 Until a close intimacy with the Murti hasbeen attained, sentiments about the humanbody being real and other worldly influencescannot recede.

84 A person may be a disciple of God, but ifhe creates terror for other disciples, heshould be considered a demon.

85 Those who have superficial knowledge canbe affected by external influences so theirtrue form will become evident at sometime.

86 Those who have firmly consolidatedknowledge are not affected by externalinfluences. Such a person continues toprogress day by day.
