FX SHOWREEL

Page 2: Showreel

A "demo reel", or "show reel", is the motion picture,

video, musical or voice-over announcement

equivalent of an artist's portfolio. It is typically used

as a tool to promote the artist's skill, talent, and

experience in a selected field.

Applications

• Medical Animation

• Architecture Animation

• Mechanical Animation

• Forensic Animation

• Animation in Education

Softwares Used

• Autodesk Maya

• Autodesk 3ds Max

• Realflow

• Eyeon fusion

• Adobe after effects

• Adobe photoshop

Page 5: Showreel

Functional Requirements

• Autodesk Maya - used to create graphics for many cinematic films & visual

effects for television programs.

• Autodesk 3ds Max - used for movie effects and movie pre-visualization.

• Realflow - used to simulate fluids, water surfaces, fluid-solid interactions,

rigid bodies, soft bodies and meshes.

• Eyeon fusion - used to create visual effects and digital compositing for

film, HD and commercials

• Adobe after effects – used in origination of 2D and 2.5D animation, visual

effects compositing and finishing (image adjustment, color correction etc.)

• Adobe photoshop – used as a graphics editing program.

Page 6: Showreel

Non Functional Requirements

• Reliability -The user shall not be able to do something which causes the

system to crash.

• Modifiability - Due to layers, making changes to the animation to a single

layer may not affect the rest of the animation. Changes to layers above may

affect layers below.

• Performance - The animation uses less processing time due to the size and

type of file. The high level of compression allows the handling of these

files with less memory usage.

Ink effects in Autodesk 3ds Max

We will install FUME FX plug-in & in its container animate a sphere in it. It should perbulate in a way as if ink drops in water. Once we get desirable motion from FUME FX then we will send it to KRAKATOA plug-in where smoke will be converted into particles and we will give red colour to those particles.

Ghost Rider effects in Autodesk 3ds Max

I downloaded the skull from internet & animated it in left & right direction in Autodesk 3ds Max. We take Fume effects container & skull is made as object source. Animation itself gives smoke effect in the desired directions. I had to tweek the skull to get my results in which I increased dissipation, increased temperature, decreased diffusion by some amount, gradient fire type & finally rendered the skull.

Blast effects in Autodesk 3ds Max

I tried to show blast effect as it is shown in movies or advertisements using FUME FX plug-in. Source were particles which first went up and then came down due to gravity. After this FUME FX particles were made as source so that smoke comes out from these particles.

Car Crash effects in Autodesk 3ds Max

Plug-in Rayfire was used in this effect.I used the model of my friend and animated it. I Moved it in a straight line with certain speed. After this I made wooden blocks in Autodesk 3ds Max and shaped them in form of gate. Then these wooden blocks were added in Rayfire plug-in and introduced wooden behavior in these blocks. In final simulation, car acts as dynamic object & gate as sleeping object but when gate comes in contact with car it also becomes dynamic.Settings : Stretch Resistance, Max Compute Rotation, Substeps, increased Gravity by some amount, small amount of force and wind was also given.

Heart shape chocolates effects in Autodesk 3ds Maya

Modelling is done in Autodesk 3ds Maya. Objects are formatted in sd format so that we can take it to Realflow. In Realflow we will work on objects in hybrido container. For motion of chocolate sauce we will take a sphere & animate it in Realflow. Sphere was made as object emitter. Tweeking was done on object emitter. Settings : Increased viscosity, compressibility, stickyness, friction, surface tension were also changed. Polygon mesh was made so that we can open the file in Autodesk Maya. In Maya shading was done and desired output was rendered.

Conclusion

• I always use to think about the work in animated movies. At last I could make an understanding about how the creative industries, film industries & advertisement industries work.

• I have made objects in Autodesk Maya & Autodesk 3ds Max. Work of animation was done in same softwares. After that we import the animated object in .sd format to Realflow. Animated effects are meshed in Realflow & after that the mesh file is imported in Autodesk Maya or 3ds Max for shading & lighting. Finally, render is formed & all of the work was compiled in Adobe after effects & clip was formed in windows movie maker.

• This demo covers the "effects" part which can mostly be seen in advertisements, movies, or even in any television series which involves the use of Visual Effects. The effects like water flow, car crash, car blast, smoke, dust, cool text effects in the ending or in the introduction of any commercial advertisements etc.

• We cannot shot everything with a camera, so some things that are computer generated , also known as CG are used to create illusions of realism. So I am making this project to explore the world of Computer Graphics in VFX which is widely used in games as well movies.
