I am delighted to welcome you all to Skipper Expo Int. Aberdeen 2019. In spite of the current Brexit
uncertainty and significantly reduced quotas for key demersal species such as cod, the industry remains in buoyant mood, hence the continued growth of exhibitors and visitors to this excellent event.
Grateful thanks are due once again to Sharon Boyle and her team at Mara Media for putting on such a large show specifically for the Scottish fishing industry.
Since the day after the EU referendum of 2016, we have not stopped lobbying ministers and civil
servants in Number 10 Downing Street, Dexeu and Defra. Our refrain has been constant: control is the key, with access and quota negotiated from a position of authority as a Coastal State. And, critically, clear separation between access to waters and access to markets.
Away from Brexit, the SFF plays an increasingly important role, in collaboration with stakeholders, in delivering improvements to gear and selectivity that underline the industry’s wholehearted commitment to sustainability, and in informing and supporting the science that underpins decision-making on quotas.
Our fishermen and processors are rightly proud of their challenging roles in putting the finest quality fish and shellfish on our tables, and with the sector facing a brighter future, it is encouraging to see so many businesses attending. Innovation and forward thinking have long been central to success in catching and processing, and I’m sure that trend will continue as we move into a new era.

Welcome to Skipper Expo Int. Aberdeen 2019, which I’m delighted to confirm is our
biggest Aberdeen expo ever, thanks to the fantastic support of over 210 exhibitors from 19 different countries.
The high number of first-time exhibitors is especially pleasing,
which means there will be plenty of new companies for regular visitors to investigate.
The excellent level of stand bookings this year highlights the underlying optimism in Scottish fishing today, with the majority of fish stocks being in good shape and a future that looks bright. Scottish seafood is renowned around the world for its quality, and this demand seems to soar with each passing year.
The outcome of Brexit is still one area of uncertainty both for the UK industry and our friends in Europe and beyond, but despite the political turmoil, the industry in Scotland remains in good shape, with many skippers investing in new vessels.
To catch the fish to put on our plates, fishermen need the best vessels, the best equipment and the best support services, all of which you will find on display here at Skipper Expo Int. Aberdeen 2019, making it a great showcase under one roof.
Highlights include the ever-popular seafood tasting stand hosted by Boxpool Solutions and safety demos from the RNLI.
