Welcome to Maryland Ensemble Theatre for the holidays! This year, MET is offering 42 performances of three different holiday plays between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve! In addition to A Christmas Story, we have Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells on our Fun Company stage, and we have A Christmas Carol showing both at the Weinberg Center for the Arts and the Carroll Arts Center in Westminster. We hope you all have a wonderful holiday season at MET! Now in our 20th season, MET is here to bring an eclectic

offering of professional theatre through our ensemble. After a short winter break (well, we’ll be in rehearsals!), we’ll bring you Martin McDonagh’s The Pillowman which opens in February followed by Rapture, Blister Burn by Gina Gionfiddo and the season rounds out with Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge! If you are a local, or just visiting, we hope you have a chance to explore our great hometown; there are over 40 restaurants within walking distance, plenty of places to shop, parking is cheap or free, and there are many, many options for nightlife after the show. If you are unfamiliar with MET, we have a resident ensemble of over 35 artists, a staff of 8, and 15 board members who dedicate massive energy as they pour their souls into every corner of our work. Our ensemble, board and staff are committed to interesting, entertaining, provocative and joyful theatre art. As an ensemble we work together to build theatre, which sparks audience dialogue, which builds community. We are so thankful that you have made the choice to spend some time with us; we hope you have a great time at MET!

Way Off Broadway, and Thurmont Thespians. Daniel is a freshman at New Life Christian School.

It’s a bit intimidating, I must confess, to tackle a piece that is so iconic in our collective conscious. Like Ralphie, many in my generation reminisce fondly on childhood holidays, except in our case, watching A Christmas Story is very much a part of those reveries. The original film, which premiered in 1983 was based on the semi-autobiographical short stories of Jean Shepherd, a writer, storyteller and TV personality who also voiced the narration of grown up Ralphie in the film.

The holidays are in many ways my favorite time of the year. At MET, we love our tradition of performing A Christmas Carol to

the Frederick and Westminster communities and we’re thrilled this year to bring you another holiday classic.

I certainly don’t want to ask you to forget the film, but for at least the next two hours, allow us to take you on a new journey into Ralphie’s memories of a past Christmas in Hohman, Indiana – to a time when kids could be kids and when perhaps the only response to a 9 year old asking for a gun would be, “You’ll shoot your eye out!”
