His parents were a poor but literary couple who instilled in him a deep love for books and writing. His important works : - A Horseman in the Sky, A Watcher by the Dead, The Man and the Snake (1920) (tales) - A Vision of Doom: Poems by Ambrose Bierce (1980) (poetry) - Civil War Stories (1994) (Sixteen stories from The Collected Works (1909)) Bierce married Mary Ellen "Mollie" Day on December 25, 1871. They had three children: two sons, Day and Leigh, and a daughter, Helen. He was last seen in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico. His end remains shrouded in mystery. for him. Without a word, the "embodiment of Law," directs him back to the jail. 3. Orrin has trouble getting a clear view of this man but eventually, determines it to be Burton Duff. 4. Finally, he is back in the prison, do we find out that next to the jail is a table with a dead body on it, the body of Burton Duff, the guard that Orrin had overpowered to escape. Point of View : First person narrative: where one of the characters tells the story – the narrator is called ‘I’.Device of time: Chronological orderTone : The mood or atmosphere the author has used for the story. Feeling of fear and suspense, the things he feels the reader should know about and understand.Language : Simple and directCentral theme : The author want to teach us about ‘brave’. No one can’t escape our fate.Symbols : Orrin Brower is a man who is brave to escape his fate. Evaluations : This story not too long but the some words in the story are complex and hard to understand. Though the story happen in chronological order with the main character.The way to express the theme is unclear and hard to understand.
