Title of the short story : An Arrest Possible meaning of the title : The main character, Orrin Brower was arrest because he kill his brother-in-law.Author : Ambrose Bierce. He was born on June 24, 1842 in Meigs county, Ohio. His mother was a descendant of William Bradford. His parents were a poor but literary couple who instilled in him a deep love for books and writing.His important works :- A Horseman in the Sky, A Watcher by the Dead, The Man and the Snake (1920) (tales)- A Vision of Doom: Poems by Ambrose Bierce (1980) (poetry)- Civil War Stories (1994) (Sixteen stories from The Collected Works (1909))Bierce married Mary Ellen "Mollie" Day on December 25, 1871. He believes he escapes when he enters a clearing in the woods to find a man with a gun waiting

for him. Without a word, the "embodiment of Law," directs him back to the jail. 3. Orrin has trouble getting a clear view of this man but eventually, determines it to be Burton Duff. 4. Finally, he is back in the prison, do we find out that next to the jail is a table with a dead body on it, the body of Burton Duff, the guard that Orrin had overpowered to escape.
