Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey, constituting the country's economic, cultural, and historical heart. Its commercial and historical centre lies in the European part of Eurasia, while about a third of its population lives in the Asian part. With a population of 14.1 million, the city forms the largest urban agglomeration in Europe as well as the largest in the Middle East, and the sixth largest city proper in the world.Istanbul's vast area of 5,343 square kilometers (2,063 sq mi) is coterminous with Istanbul Province, of which the city is the administrative capital. Istanbul is altranscontinental city, straddling the Bosphorus strait in northwestern Turkey between the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea.     [Excerpt: Wikipedia]

Istanbul ou est la plus grande ville et métropole de la Turquie et la préfecture de la province homonyme, dont elle occupe environ 50 % de la superficie mais plus de 98 % de la population. Elle est inscrite sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l‘Unesco depuis 1985. Istanbul est le principal centre financier, commercial et industriel de la Turquie mais aussi la capitale culturelle du pays. La population de l'ensemble de l'agglomération stambouliote est évaluée à 14 millions d'habitants en 2013 ce qui en fait la deuxième ville la plus peuplée d‚Europe. tant est que l'on considère la Turquie comme européenne — et l'une des plus grandes megapoles du monde.

Istanbul ist die bevölkerungsreichste Stadt der Türkei und deren Zentrum für Kultur, Handel, Finanzen und Medien. Das Stadtgebiet erstreckt sich am Nordufer des Marmarameeres auf beiden Seiten des Bosporus, der Meerenge zwischen Mittelmeer und Schwarzem Meer. Durch diese Lage sowohl im europäischen Thrakien als auch im asiatischen Anatolien ist Istanbul die einzige Metropole der Welt, die sich auf zwei Kontinenten befindet.Das städtische Siedlungsgebiet beherbergte 2013 rund 14,16 Millionen Einwohner und nimmt damit den 23. Platz unter den größten Metropolregionen der Welt ein.

Estambul es la mayor ciudad de Turquía y la primera más poblada de Europa. Según las últimas estimaciones del Instituto de Estadísticas turco (2013) la población de esta megalópolis se ha incrementado hasta llegar a los 14 160 467 de habitantes. La mayor parte de la población es de religión musulmana, si bien existen minorías de cristianos (68 000) y de judíos (22 000).

…an old wooden house with - no doubt - an interesting past ... it is waiting to be brought to its old beauty again, like so many

others we saw - the renovations go on in old Istanbul ....

Istanbul has at least 17 Million inhabitants, somebody said 21 Million .... in such a big city one is bound to find areas like this one, and we stumbled across it along with the area of renovations just below the Süleymaniye Mosque…
