ABOUT BHC

In 1984, Boston House College School of Design was established, under the umbrella of and

affiliated to, Boston House College. In 1996 it was bought by Heidi Jaeger and rebranded as

BHC school of Design (Pty) Ltd. In 2009 Jeremy Volkmann became the new Managing Director

and majority shareholder of the company, which currently operates as a private provider in higher

education.

Along with our comprehensive 3 Year Diploma in Interior Design and 1 Year Higher Certificate in Interior Decorating, BHC presents

a variety of intensive short, part time courses.

BHC School of Design (Pty) Ltd 2005/001588/07 is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training until 31 December 2018 as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997. BHC presents a variety of intensive enrichment short courses in the field of design, more specifically: Interior Decorating, Presentation Drawing, 2D AutoCAD, Presentation Methods, SketchUp Pro, Artlantis Studio and Revit Essentials.

The part-time short courses are non-credit bearing, intensive courses, made up of modules taken from our SAQA registered full-time Diploma in Interior Design and Higher Certificate in Inerior Decorating programmes.

INTERIOR DECORATINGThis short, introductory course includes the decorative and functional planning of the domestic environment. It covers both practical and aesthetic aspects of decorating and projects are orientated towards a portfolio of a professional standard.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND Anyone interested in design and decorating, for personal or industry involvement; consultants, stylists, housewives, estate agents, developers, etc. This course is also useful as an entry portfolio to the full-time Interior Design or Interior Decorating programme.

2D AUTOCADThis course provides the learner with an introduction to the skills and knowledge required to use appropriate computer software as an aid to interior design. The difference in approach between manual and computer-aided drawing (CAD) is explained.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND This rapid-paced course is for anyone who plans to become a regular AutoCAD user and needs the fundamental skills to create, edit and dimension AutoCAD drawings. This course is ideal for new AutoCAD users or anyone who has not used the software for a few years.

COURSE OUTLINE

This course concentrates on using the AutoCAD software package for the production of two-dimensional drawings for domestic and small industrial buildings.

Industry standard layer convention and libraries of standard symbols along with system procedures and functions are used to digitise the drawing process.

This course is aimed at assembling an effective visual presentation using PhotoShop CS5 as the vehicle to compile effective, electronic visuals such as corporate/ interior/ architectural presentations and layouts, posters, sample, concept and mood boards.

This course will teach you how to navigate through PhotoShop CS, as well as enhance and touch-up imagery, resize and transform, work with multiple layers and how to digitally incorporate scanned imagery, samples, texture and patterns. You will also learn how to capture the essence of ambiance, atmosphere and mood in a digital presentation medium to successfully convey your intention.

At the end of this course your layouts should have a good sense of composition, balance, order and rhythm to optimise your design or proposal.

PRESENTATION METHODS

WHO SHOULD ATTEND This course is designed to teach essential elements of Photoshop and is suitable for anyone without any prior graphic knowledge. Ideal for those wanting to learn digital presentation skills. This course is a must for design and marketing professionals and in-house designers.

PRESENTATIONDRAWING

This course concentrates on three dimensional hand drawn presentation skills and 2D rendering offering an innovative, user-friendly approach to freehand presentation methods. This course is geared towards enhancing drawing and client communication skills. Basic draughting skills are required.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND This course is ideal for decorators, designers and draughtsmen, and those wishing to develop their presentation skills further.

SketchUp is a 3D modeling computer program you can use to create, modify and share 3D models. The simplified SketchUp toolset is designed as a guided drawing system. It is quick and easy to learn and use as a modeling program. Learn how to operate the SketchUp package in just a few weeks.

SKETCH UP PRO

WHO SHOULD ATTEND This course is designed to teach the essential elements of SketchUp and is suitable for anyone with prior knowledge of drawing software. This course is a must for designers who want to create quick 3D models.

ARTLANTIS STUDIOThis course will focus on using the Artlantis software package for generating 3D realistic rendered presentations. It is structured in such a manner that the learner will have a thorough understanding of the program settings and features. The learner will be able to generate photorealistic rendered images as well as virtual animations to assist in presentation and drawing realism.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND The course is designed to teach the learner how to use the different functions and tools in Artlantis and is suitable for anyone who is proficient in 3D modelling software such as SketchUp, AutoCAD 3D or Revit. The course is a must for designers/ architects who want to create photo realistic renders for presentations.

• Create realistic materials and light effects for a 3D model for a photo realistic effect

Autodesk Revit Architecture, often referred to as simply Revit, is a Building Information Modeling software package developed by Autodesk. It allows the user to design with both parametric 3D modeling and 2D drafting elements. This course is directed towards using Revit as a 3D modeling tool for Interior Design.

NOTE: Students should have some architectural design, drafting or engineering knowledge and experience with 2D AutoCAD, as a minimum admissions requirements.

REVIT ESSENTIALS

WHO SHOULD ATTEND New Autodesk Revit Architecture users or other Autodesk software users who want to learn the essential elements of Revit Architecture.
