Student Involvement • Audition to be the SC Mascot, discover a love of theater and perform in SC drama

• Continue with our band, travel with our music programs to Ireland, and become Drum Major

• Join our Black Student Union and help plan the Martin Luther King Recognition Assembly

• Choose video production as an elective and later help lead SC students in all-school video events and our live SCNN broadcast

Athletics• Fall Sports: boys’ tennis, football, girls’ volleyball, soccer, swimming and cross-country (co-ed)

Outstanding Academics• Be recognized as a Highlander of the Month for

achievement in a specific department• Enroll in rigorous AP coursework- join the nearly 300

students who took one or more AP tests at SC last year!• Take advantage of dual enrollment classes and earn UW

credit in Astronomy and Pre-Calculus• Complete a sequence of study in an interest area like

world language, visual arts, or STEM (science, technology, engineering and math)

• Receive admittance to a selective college or program such as UW Honors, West Point, Ivy League schools, MITES at MIT and the Albers Summer Business Institute at Seattle University

• Be the first in your family to attend a four-year college

Commitment to the Community• Serve as a student leader in the local Youth Council

• Organize a fundraiser for a charitable cause, such as our student raising funds to support education for girls in Afghanistan

• Participate as a camp counselor with one of our partner elementary schools

• Earn a gold medal from the Presidential Service Award Program for completing over 250 in one year.

To meet all graduation requirements and personal goals, each

student must look at his/her programfrom freshman year on,

selecting classes carefully.

Earning High School Credit

•One school year is divided into 2 semesters

• Student takes 6 classes per semester

• .5 credit is earned per class, per semester

• 3 credits possible per semester

• 6 credits per year

• 22. 5 credits to graduate

Credit can be lost if . . .

• Students earn a failing grade- below 60% in a class (F)

• 10 or more absences are reached in one semester

Student must earn a minimum of:

• 5.0 credits for Sophomore status• 10.0 credits for Junior status• 16.0 credits for Senior status• 22.5 credits for graduation

• Three years math credit required

• Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II

• End of Course exams in Algebra 1 and Geometry; must pass one

• Special circumstances handled with IEP managers and counselors

Highlander Home & more . . . • HH- Pilot program 30 minutes of support, 4 days per week Targeted Interventions for failing grades Flexibility to see teachers with a pass• CAFE - T, W,Th afterschool homework help with supervision

• Math Night - weekly session, Wed 3:30-5:00

• Data Dashboard – updates are provided every two weeks and provide a snapshot of your student’s progress in class.

Important Reminders• Students are “reserving” spaces in classes and are making a commitment to take those classes.

• Minimal class changes will be made prior to the start of school to facilitate proper level placement or scheduling errors.

• Students requesting honors classes are making a full year-long commitment to honors level work.

• If a requested class does not fit in a student’s schedule, an alternate will be scheduled. Please choose alternate classes carefully.
