WATER BOTTLES ARE ESSENTIAL As drink fountains are not available, children need to bring a water bottle to school everyday. These can be
refilled at bubbler tap if necessary.

is very important that students have a regular bedtime and lots of rest to ensure they have the energy they need to cope with the significant changes to their lifestyle. In fact, it almost feels like the start of term at times! Thank you for supporting the staggered drop off and pick up system which reduces the congregation of adults at the school. It is important that parents work out with their children which gate and where they will meet them. If you are using Bowmore Avenue as your meeting place please be aware that you can park on the school side for fifteen minutes only. Please do not get to school earlier than your allocated time because this contributes to the congestion and be aware that you may need to go around the block if there are no spots to park. At the moment it is working quite well but on occasions we have a double line of cars waiting to park which is dangerous. Unfortunately this term we have decided that Birthday treats cannot be distributed at school, even if they are not food related. I understand this is disappointing for some children but we just do not want to put anyone at risk at this time. Thank you for your understanding. Water Bottles are essential items at school as children are not permitted to drink from the bubble taps, they can fill their bottles from them. If your child has a “POPS Keep Cup” it is a good idea to leave it in their bag in case they forget their water bottle. The cups must be named, as should the water bottles and are available through the uniform order form at a cost of $5. It is wonderful that more of our students are riding to school now but it is very important that they are aware of how to ride safely. Students must walk their bikes from the corner of Bowmore and across the crossing and into the school grounds as well as where there are people congregating, ie, on the footpaths and through the shops area. It is essential that they know to stop at driveways and look for cars exiting or entering. Congratulations to the SRC for organising the Footy Colours Day today. It was wonderful to see everyone decked out in their sporting code and team’s colours. Unfortunately we cannot accept cash at the moment so if families would like to support Kids with Cancer, here is the link: https://www.fightcancer.org.au/footycoloursday/after-your-event/bank-your-money to donate. I have included a Cucina at Home piece in the newsletter and the recipe for this month, Broad bean and Pea Risotto for your I information and cooking enjoyment. I was informed by Manningham Council yesterday that our crossing supervisor, Michael, passed away suddenly last week. I am sure the community will join with me in sending our condolences and sympathy to his family. If you have any questions please contact me on [email protected]

Well the second week of being back onsite has flown by and it is so pleasing to see the happiness of the students as they arrive at school in the mornings. Staff are working hard to establish classroom routines and supporting students to develop their stamina for the longer lesson times as they transition from remote learning back to the classroom. Our key focus areas in learning are literacy and numeracy and as students are getting back to their classroom routines we are beginning to assess student progress in these areas. To support this, teachers will be using their Term 4 Professional Practice Day for assessment of student learning. This means that teachers will remain onsite to assess students and a replacement teacher will be in the class for the day. We are minimising any disruption by spreading the days across the next three weeks. We are employing less replacement teachers and only those who regularly work at our school as part of our COVID safe plan. As students transition back to school and the days grow longer it

As children have been off site for some time I want to remind parents to update medical information and medications that may be out of date. Please contact the office if you need to check these details or need to notify staff of any changes to your childs’ health.
ASTHMA INFORMATION Please ensure you provide a plan, spacer and Ventolin if your child suffers from asthma. It is now a requirement that school spacers are single use only.
Due to this we have purchased disposable spacers that come at an individual cost of $6. We do not gain any profit from these products. Asthma Plan

During Tuesday night’s School Council meeting the following policies and procedures were presented.
Child Safety Standards Policy Park Orchards Primary School (P.O.P.S) Child Safety Policy sets out the school’s commitment and approach to creating and maintaining a child safe organisation where children and young people are safe and feel safe, and provides the policy framework for the school’s approach to the Child Safe Standards. This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, and contractors in the school environment, whether or not they work in direct contact with children or young people. This policy also applies to school council members where indicated.
P.O.P.S is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. This will be the primary focus of our care and decision-making.
The school’s approach to creating and maintaining a child safe school environment is guided by our school philosophy and values.
At P.O.P.S our vision is ‘To educate and nurture the whole child through quality learning and personal development programs which provide students with the necessary skills, values and behaviours to achieve throughout their lives.’ We know children can struggle to achieve their personal best if they are not safe from abuse.
At P.O.P.S our values guide the decisions and behaviours of all members of our school community, including in relation to child safety. All students, staff and parents strive to uphold the school values and reflect them through the five Poppy Tribes Agreements: Strive for your personal best (Excellence) Demonstrate mutual respect for yourself and others (Respect) Attentively listen (Respect) Actively participate and you have the right to pass (Responsibility) Express appreciation and do not put down others (Integrity)
P.O.P.S has zero tolerance for child abuse.
We are committed to providing a child safe environment where children and young people are safe and feel safe, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives. Our child safe policies, procedures, strategies and practices will be inclusive of the needs of all children, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, children with disabilities, and children who are vulnerable.
Every person involved in P.O.P.S has a responsibility to understand the important and specific role they play individually and collectively to ensure that the wellbeing and safety of all children and young people is at the forefront of all they do and every decision they make.
Anaphylaxis Management Policy
To explain to Park Orchards Primary School (P.O.P.S) parents, carers, staff and students the processes and procedures in place to support students diagnosed as being at risk of suffering from anaphylaxis. This policy also ensures that P.O.P.S is compliant with Ministerial Order 706 and the Department’s guidelines for anaphylaxis management.
Anaphylaxis Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that occurs after exposure to an allergen. The most common allergens for school-aged children are nuts, eggs, cow’s milk, fish, shellfish, wheat, soy, sesame, latex, certain insect stings and medication.
All students at P.O.P.S who are diagnosed by a medical practitioner as being at risk of suffering from an anaphylactic reaction must have an Individual Anaphylaxis Management Plan. When notified of an anaphylaxis diagnosis, the principal of P.O.P.S is responsible for developing a plan in consultation with the student’s parents/carers.
Where necessary, an Individual Anaphylaxis Management Plan will be in place as soon as practicable after a student enrols at P.O.P.S and where possible, before the student’s first day.
