Mela Shobhini asked Nani ldquoShall we go to the melardquo From a distance they could see the big giant wheel Itturned slowly and then faster and faster ldquoShall we takea ride on the giant wheelrdquo Shobhini said to Nani The wheel began to move slowly Then it began to gofaster and faster Shobhini closed her eyes tightly Shewas not really scared but felt better when she held on toNanirsquos hand She would open her eyes a little from timeto time to see where they were Shobhini noticed thatNani did not shut her eyes Instead she was laughingand waving to the people below When the ride was over Shobhini and Nani wanderedaround in the mela Shobhini bought a little horn Shetooted so hard that a dog jumped up and ran away

Nani bought Shobhini a gas balloon When they camehome Shobhini tied a small paper basket to the balloonand put some ants in the basket Then she let go of thestring The balloon floated high above the housebeyond the field past the mela and went off far faraway

Shobhini Combs Nanirsquos Hair Nani had just washed her hair Her hair was long softand white and it was shining in the sunshine ldquoNani canI comb your hair for yourdquo asked Shobhini ldquoI will do itcarefully I wonrsquot hurt you at allrdquo Shobhini combed Nanirsquos hair carefully She made aparting in the middle and divided her hair into two partsWith each portion she made a pony tail on either side ofNanirsquos head Not happy with the pony tails she madethem into two long plaits Quickly Shobhini found a big yellow flower She stuck theflower in one of Nanirsquos plaits A red and orange butterflycame and sat down on Nanirsquos hair Right next to the bigyellow flower Shobhini ran to bring a mirror She showed Nani the two long plaits the big yellowflower and the colourful butterfly

Jungle ldquoShall we go to the junglerdquo Shobhini asked Nani ldquoThereare wild animals there You wonrsquot be scared I hoperdquo Shobhini and Nani reached the jungle First they saw arabbit He was lost and was looking for his mother Hiseyes were full of tears Shobhini and Nani helped himfind his mother Elephants were bathing in the river They filled water intheir trunks and sprayed it like a fountain over eachother It looked like a lot of fun One monkey was eating a mango on a tree Shobhiniteased the monkey and made a face at him The monkeywas furious He took a mango and threw it at ShobhiniNani quickly put her hand out and swiftly caught themango before it could hit Shobhini It was a very goodcatchldquoWow Nani rdquo said Shobhini ldquoI did not know that youcould play cricketrdquo

Rain It was raining Sometimes it was windy and the raincame pouring down hard and loud Sometimes the rainwas soft Shobhini asked Nani ldquoCan I go out and play in the rainI want to get wetrdquo ldquoBe careful of the lightningrdquo replied NaniShobhinirsquos dog Pillu was under the chair When he sawShobhini with an umbrella he came out from under thechair Pillu licked Shobhinirsquos hand and wagged his tail ldquoAll rightrdquo said Shobhini ldquoYou can come toordquo Shobhini walked ahead Pillu was just behind her Asthey reached the end of the verandah there was asudden gust of wind Shobhinirsquos umbrella flew out of herhand and out onto the grass There was a streak oflightning in the sky Shobhini stopped

A few seconds later there was a very loud clap ofthunder Pillu ran back to the house and hid under thechair Shobhini ran back and hid in Nanirsquos lap

Wool Nani was sitting in the sun She was rolling wool into aball ldquoCan I help yourdquo asked Shobhini Shobhini looked for the end of the wool She startedrolling it into a ball like Nani was doing Soon the woolbecame a big ball When it was too big it slipped out ofShobhinirsquos hand and jumped up in the air Many swans were flying overhead One of them caughtthe ball of wool Shobhini looked up and saw a longstring of red wool hanging from the sky Shobhiniclapped her hands when she saw this sight The otherend of the wool slipped out of her hands

When the swan heard the clap he looked down He couldsee Shobhini on the ground but she looked very smallfrom so high up

As he looked the ball of wool slipped out of his mouthShobhini ran to where the wool fell from the sky Shequickly rolled up all the wool and gave the ball to Nani

The River It was a hot summer day ldquoNani will you come with meto the river to batherdquo asked Shobhini The river was quite far from the house Nani andShobhini sat in a tonga and reached the riverbank Manypeople were bathing on the ghats The water near thebanks did not flow very fast Shobhini had brought manypaper boats with her One of her boats quickly floatedaway very far Nani talked to a boatman Shobhini andNani sat in the boat and went quite far The boatman said ldquoThe water is very deep here If youput one elephant on top of another they would bothsinkrdquo lsquoWow One elephant on top of anotherrsquo thoughtShobhini entranced A goldfish leapt out of the water Ittouched Shobhinirsquos hand Shobhini was delighted

The boatman said ldquoCome again ShobhinirdquoldquoYou know merdquo asked Shobhini surprisedldquoYes I know your mother toordquo said the boatmanldquoWhen she was little I used to take her out on thisboatrdquo Nani smiled at Shobhini

The Moon ldquoLet us go to the moon todayrdquo said Shobhini to NaniShe took Nanirsquos special walking stick ndash the one that had ahead of silver

First Shobhini climbed on the stick ldquoGet on carefullyNanirdquo said Shobhini ldquoThere is nothing to be scared ofrdquo

The stick zoomed into the air with Shobhini sitting onthe stick and Nani behind her They flew into the skyabove all the birds and the clouds Soon they were liketiny dots in the sky We are all waiting for them to comeback

Shobhini Combs Nanirsquos Hair Nani had just washed her hair Her hair was long softand white and it was shining in the sunshine ldquoNani canI comb your hair for yourdquo asked Shobhini ldquoI will do itcarefully I wonrsquot hurt you at allrdquo Shobhini combed Nanirsquos hair carefully She made aparting in the middle and divided her hair into two partsWith each portion she made a pony tail on either side ofNanirsquos head Not happy with the pony tails she madethem into two long plaits Quickly Shobhini found a big yellow flower She stuck theflower in one of Nanirsquos plaits A red and orange butterflycame and sat down on Nanirsquos hair Right next to the bigyellow flower Shobhini ran to bring a mirror She showed Nani the two long plaits the big yellowflower and the colourful butterfly

Jungle ldquoShall we go to the junglerdquo Shobhini asked Nani ldquoThereare wild animals there You wonrsquot be scared I hoperdquo Shobhini and Nani reached the jungle First they saw arabbit He was lost and was looking for his mother Hiseyes were full of tears Shobhini and Nani helped himfind his mother Elephants were bathing in the river They filled water intheir trunks and sprayed it like a fountain over eachother It looked like a lot of fun One monkey was eating a mango on a tree Shobhiniteased the monkey and made a face at him The monkeywas furious He took a mango and threw it at ShobhiniNani quickly put her hand out and swiftly caught themango before it could hit Shobhini It was a very goodcatchldquoWow Nani rdquo said Shobhini ldquoI did not know that youcould play cricketrdquo

Rain It was raining Sometimes it was windy and the raincame pouring down hard and loud Sometimes the rainwas soft Shobhini asked Nani ldquoCan I go out and play in the rainI want to get wetrdquo ldquoBe careful of the lightningrdquo replied NaniShobhinirsquos dog Pillu was under the chair When he sawShobhini with an umbrella he came out from under thechair Pillu licked Shobhinirsquos hand and wagged his tail ldquoAll rightrdquo said Shobhini ldquoYou can come toordquo Shobhini walked ahead Pillu was just behind her Asthey reached the end of the verandah there was asudden gust of wind Shobhinirsquos umbrella flew out of herhand and out onto the grass There was a streak oflightning in the sky Shobhini stopped

A few seconds later there was a very loud clap ofthunder Pillu ran back to the house and hid under thechair Shobhini ran back and hid in Nanirsquos lap

Wool Nani was sitting in the sun She was rolling wool into aball ldquoCan I help yourdquo asked Shobhini Shobhini looked for the end of the wool She startedrolling it into a ball like Nani was doing Soon the woolbecame a big ball When it was too big it slipped out ofShobhinirsquos hand and jumped up in the air Many swans were flying overhead One of them caughtthe ball of wool Shobhini looked up and saw a longstring of red wool hanging from the sky Shobhiniclapped her hands when she saw this sight The otherend of the wool slipped out of her hands

When the swan heard the clap he looked down He couldsee Shobhini on the ground but she looked very smallfrom so high up

As he looked the ball of wool slipped out of his mouthShobhini ran to where the wool fell from the sky Shequickly rolled up all the wool and gave the ball to Nani

The River It was a hot summer day ldquoNani will you come with meto the river to batherdquo asked Shobhini The river was quite far from the house Nani andShobhini sat in a tonga and reached the riverbank Manypeople were bathing on the ghats The water near thebanks did not flow very fast Shobhini had brought manypaper boats with her One of her boats quickly floatedaway very far Nani talked to a boatman Shobhini andNani sat in the boat and went quite far The boatman said ldquoThe water is very deep here If youput one elephant on top of another they would bothsinkrdquo lsquoWow One elephant on top of anotherrsquo thoughtShobhini entranced A goldfish leapt out of the water Ittouched Shobhinirsquos hand Shobhini was delighted

A few seconds later there was a very loud clap ofthunder Pillu ran back to the house and hid under thechair Shobhini ran back and hid in Nanirsquos lap

Wool Nani was sitting in the sun She was rolling wool into aball ldquoCan I help yourdquo asked Shobhini Shobhini looked for the end of the wool She startedrolling it into a ball like Nani was doing Soon the woolbecame a big ball When it was too big it slipped out ofShobhinirsquos hand and jumped up in the air Many swans were flying overhead One of them caughtthe ball of wool Shobhini looked up and saw a longstring of red wool hanging from the sky Shobhiniclapped her hands when she saw this sight The otherend of the wool slipped out of her hands

When the swan heard the clap he looked down He couldsee Shobhini on the ground but she looked very smallfrom so high up

As he looked the ball of wool slipped out of his mouthShobhini ran to where the wool fell from the sky Shequickly rolled up all the wool and gave the ball to Nani

The River It was a hot summer day ldquoNani will you come with meto the river to batherdquo asked Shobhini The river was quite far from the house Nani andShobhini sat in a tonga and reached the riverbank Manypeople were bathing on the ghats The water near thebanks did not flow very fast Shobhini had brought manypaper boats with her One of her boats quickly floatedaway very far Nani talked to a boatman Shobhini andNani sat in the boat and went quite far The boatman said ldquoThe water is very deep here If youput one elephant on top of another they would bothsinkrdquo lsquoWow One elephant on top of anotherrsquo thoughtShobhini entranced A goldfish leapt out of the water Ittouched Shobhinirsquos hand Shobhini was delighted
