Shiva

The story of a pan indic script

Page 2: Shiva : A proposed script reform for India

It is the same complexity, be it a 35 year old woman trying to get literate for the first time or a 70 year old man learning to write.

We could easily simplify our script. We just choose to use simpler symbols for our characters.

The jalebis serve no purpose other than making it complex to learn and pose a huge barrier to literacy, the primary problem of our country.

People trying to learn it just give up after a while.

This is not a jalebi script

This would support digital technologies very well.

And this is really the long associate of Sanskrit language.

Languages upto Sinhalese, Thai and even Korean are called Brahmic languages.

The Shiva script is inspired by the Brahmi script. Looks very similar too. Just designed in modern times from the drawing board with many other

considerations in mind.

What script is this ?

This is Brahmic

The script that Sanskrit used since 3rd century BC.

Ashokan Edict

The Devanagari script and related other scripts were introduced from the 13th century onwards. Relatively recently.

Also the period when India’s decline started.

India : A land of unity and diversity. We vary only in terms of how his pa differs from her pa. How his

sha is written and how her sha is written.

They write exactly the same thing whenever they write anything. They only differ in their looks.

India’s languages are orthographically same, only typographically different.

We could easily unify them into one script for all.

A script that everyone can use. And we will be left with no differences.

And the Hyderabad Railway station can announce the arrival of Rajdhani Express in just one script in its display system, instead of in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Urdu and any other.

We need to address language reform.

We can address it today, or we can address it 20 years from now. But we will have to.

We cannot continue like this forever.

Such a script

Should be inclusive of all. Includes all the alphabets that anyone uses.

Such a script should be designed with considerations for modern technologies.. Digital sciences and Display technologies.
