It has been nearly 80 years since our family has been relying on the Black Angus Cow for our living. Many things have changed in those 80 years but there are quite a few things that haven’t. Most importantly would be the perseverance of the Black Angus Cow and her ability to adapt to the extremes that Mother Nature throws our way. And not to mention, the stewards of the land. The good cowmen and women working hard every day of the year, doing their best to keep their operations thriving for the generations to come. Our hats off to you. We are very proud of this set of bulls. Every one of them was bred, born and raised on our outfi t. We develop them slowly at home and only offer the top 50%. They have gone through 6 sorts to make it this far. Every cow is rated at calving for disposition, body condition, hoof structure, udder attachment and teat size. Our goal is to provide you with

If for whatever reason they don’t, we want to know about it and make it right.Our goal isn’t to breed the big numbered cattle that fall out of the herd quickly or chasing the latest fad. All the right numbers in all the right spots don’t matter much if they structurally break down and can’t travel. We have learned to sometimes lean towards the older, proven genetics to do the job. We don’t consider on fl ushing a cow until she has proven herself worthy. Most of our donor cows are in their teens. Our breeding philosophy is to simply create cattle that are profi table, trouble free and just fl at last a long time. Those are the kind that keep you, our customers in business. Wintering:Wintering arrangements are available for $300 per head until April 1, 2020.

Retained Interest:Shipwheel Cattle Co. is retaining one-third (1/3) revenue sharing semen interest in every bull selling.

EXPLANATION OF CALVING EASE SCOREDISPOSITION AND FOOT SCORES

We pay very close attention to the foot quality of our herd and only use a bull that we feel will improve the hoof structure. We focus on breeding an Angus cow that will stand the test of time in our extreme Northern Montana climate. Foot Quality has been severely over-looked in the chase for bigger numbers. No animal here is trimmed except for our horses. If there ever is a foot problem with a bull purchased from us, we make it right. Any bulls that showed signs of poor hoof structure have been culled.

DISPOSITION AND FOOT SCORES:The scoring for the disposition and foot scores are based on a 1-5 rating. 1 being the very worst and 5 being the very best.

Scoring information:

BULL DEVELOPMENTAT SHIPWHEEL CATTLE CO.

Prior to calving, our cows are expected to graze winter pasture with only SweetPro blocks, usually well into February before seeing any hay.

Our cows are range calved in April and May while only being checked twice a day. The pairs summer primarily in some of our higher, rougher pastures

with the calves never seeing any creep feed. A full round of shots are given at our June/July brandings as well as preconditioning in September/October. The calves

are then fence line weaned in early November on our hay meadows and SweetPro blocks. After grazing for 30 days, the bulls are then hauled into our grow yard, where they

remain until May. While in the grow yard, a 2.5 to3 lb. gain is targeted with a roughage based diet consisting of grass/alfalfa hay, silage, a mix of oats, peas, corn and a customized vitamin mineral pack.

We are constantly evaluating them and enjoy watching them slowly progress into structurally sound breeding bulls. The bulls are then hauled to summer pasture where they are expected to travel and thrive

in rough terrain. In September, the bulls are brought back into the grow yard and fed a similar diet to post weaning. The manner in which we develop our bulls enables them to express their genetics.

The bulls are broke to horses, dogs and a hot wire. A huge thank you goes out to Ron Amidon for the countless hours spent on our rations.
