All our other faculties seem tohave the brown touch of earthupon them, but the imaginationcarries the very livery of heaven, and is God's self in the soul.
HENRY WARD BEECHER,Proverbs from Plymouth Pulpit
Jules Steinerw a sunquestionablyamong the mostimaginative of dolland toy makers ofthe 19th Century. He was notcontent to copythe many others u c c e s s f u lproducers ofplaythings whosurrounded him,but rather forgedhis owningenuitive path. The resultingreward: incredibleadvances in doll and toytechnology. Thanks to his ardentimagination and drive to createsomething new, he made thedolls dance like few before himor after.
HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEARTO YOU!!
Where will your dolls take you thisyear? As one of your resolutions doyou plan on including your dollenthusiasm as a goal for enjoying thisnew year a bit more? Most of ushave realized that sharing our dollsis one of the best ways of enjoyingthem and it leads to new friends, newinformation about our collections, and a new appreciation for what thedolls are and how much they meanto us.
Consider sharing your enthusiasm, knowledge, and collection with yourdoll club, other clubs, your locall ibrary, children and theirorganizations. If you aren’t already amember of The United Federationof Doll Clubs, consider joining sothat you may network with othercollectors. There are also specializedclubs that target just one type of dollor doll maker.
Research is a wonderful way toenjoy your dolls more. There is somuch excellent information out therenow that has been published byknowledgeable people with yoursame enthusiasm. They have alreadydone the work for all of us. We carrymany of the works of these fineauthors in our Museum Store andalso make them available to you inour Library.

This year the dolls are taking usto Kansas City and the NationalAntique Doll Dealer AssociationShow and Sale! We are very excitedto be returning to the home ofHallmark, the Doll and MiniatureMuseum, and, of course, our ownUnited Federation of Doll Clubsheadquarters. Now if that doesn’twarrant a trip to Missouri, I don’tknow what does. history andacross manycultures. Whatconstitutes a
fairy can change from culture toculture and also varies greatlywithin different traditionalcontexts. Some would classifyall creatures of a supernaturalrealm as fairies, while othersreserve the term fairy todescribe only the more etherealand elegant of these fantasticalentities. Across the board, however, is the notion of fairiesas possessing powers andhaving an air of mystery.
A fantasyland of fair ies, gnomes, elves and otherwoodland creatures will take uptemporary residence in ourChanging Gallery from May 21stto October 16th, 2011. Delicateand romantic flower fairies, bothantique and modern, will alighttogether with more modernfairies and elves, includingRaven Pewzner’s very lovelylimited edition porcelain andcloth "Gothic fairies". Also, sureto help us shake off the winterdoldrums and get into the spiritof spring and summer will bewonderfully detailed antiquefairy paper dolls, prints, books, textiles, and much more. Comejoin us for this little break fromdaily reality, and let yourimagination soar …Your flight offantasy is ready to board!

Well, isn’t it just natural that weshould “spotlight” what our culturecontinues to spotlight on a regularbasis, ROYALTY? With the mediafocusing on the upcoming wedding ofPrince William to the commoner KateMiddleton, we think it appropriate tofocus on our ROYALTY Exhibit.
Certainly it is nothing new that royalpersonages have been the subject ofpublic scrutiny. We love to be shockedby their antics, it makes them human, like us, though our expectations arefor them to be “superhuman” becauseof their stature.
Our exhibit of historical royalfigures, located on the second floor, gives even more insight into some ofthose who have been so scrutinized, gossiped about, written about,“cartoonized”, ridiculed, and held inhigh acclaim-many all at the same

On such a note, if you haven’t seen“The King’s Speech” now playing intheaters,do go seeit. It is af i n eexampleof asomewhatunknownaspect ofa royalpersonagethat bearstelling. Iapp l audt h ehistoricalaccuracy of the times and theportrayals by all of the cast.
As you visit the Museum exhibit, please note also the Englishcommoners by Kammer andReinhardt, a delightful group you mayrelate to if you don’t relate to theroyals. Keep them in mind as weremind you of our upcoming exhibitat the end of 2011-”On The Streets
