Crown Bible-Verse HolderLesson 11: Saul Becomes King

Introduce the CraftShow your sample.

Say God gave the Israelites what they wanted— a king. When Saul turned out to be a bad king, the people suffered the consequences of their foolish choice. But one day, God would send another King, His own Son, to establish His kingdom forever. We are sinful and make bad choices too. But God forgives our sins for the sake of His Son, Jesus, who died on the cross for us and rose again. Now as King, Jesus rules over all creation with His almighty power and governs and protects His Church on earth. Someday, He will lead His Church—you and me and all who believe in Him—to glory in heaven. Today, you will make a Crown Bible-Verse Holder to remind you that you are a child of the King. It can hold Bible verses that tell you of His love.

Shepherd’s BagLesson 12: David and Goliath

Introduce the CraftShow kids your sample drawstring bag.

Say David put five smooth stones into his shep-herd’s bag. He used one of those stones to defeat his enemy. We use God’s Word to defeat our great-est enemy, the devil. We can use God’s Word best when we have it “hidden in our hearts,” which we can do by memorizing Bible verses.Today, you’ll make a Shepherd’s Bag. It will be a handy place to keep Bible verses and other trea-sures to remind you of Jesus. Make a bag with the kids, showing them how to assemble the bag, one step at a time.

Do This■■ Print your name on the inside part of the crown and “Jesus

Is My King” on the part that will show when it is assembled.

■■ Decorate the crown.

■■ Set the crown aside to let the glue dry.

■■ Staple the ends of the crown piece together to form a circle.

■■ Print Bible verses on index cards (either your Sunday School memory verses or other favorite verses, e.g., Psalm 37:5; Proverbs 3:5; John 3:16; Philippians 4:13).

■■ Set the index cards on the crown, using it as a holder.

Do This■■ Gather a piece of felt, a needle, a long piece of thread, scis-

sors, and two pieces of string.

■■ Lay one piece of string across one of the 9-inch ends of the felt.

■■ Fold about an inch of felt over the string. Adjust the string so it is close to the fold line; then sew along the edge, being careful that the stitches do not go through the string.

■■ Follow the same directions to sew a string into the other 9-inch end of the felt. (Step 1)

■■ Fold the felt in half so the 1-inch folded pockets are facing outward and the strings are side by side.

■■ Sew a seam along each side of the bag, from the bottom fold to the pockets with strings, leaving them open. (Step 2)

■■ Tie the ends of one piece of string together. Tie the other string’s ends together.

■■ Turn the bag inside out and pull strings so that the bag closes.

■■ Put a Remember Rock (Lesson 4 craft) or pocket cross inside Shepherd’s Bag, or print Bible verses on cards to put inside.Step 1
