NOur vision is that in 2036 Shenley will have

maintained and improved its distinctive attractive

character and heritage as a beautiful rural

village. A setting that has evolved over ten

centuries, surrounded by highly valued open

countryside most of which is still actively farmed

with an active and diverse community served

well by its amenities and facilities including an

improved walking, cycling and public transport

provision.

This policy defines an area around the old village where additional rules apply to any proposed development

It includes the existing conservation zones, Shenley Park, and an area west of London Road which may be included in the Hertmere Local Plan

Some development within the Special Policy Area could be supported if important requirements are met to ensure it fulfils the Plan’s needs

The policy aims to apply some Green Belt rules to areas that Hertsmere may remove from the Green Belt and to any brownfield sites that may become available

Encourages the use of community-led planning schemes such as a Neighbourhood Development Order or a Community Right or Build Order
