SHEMESH SUMMER CAMPSwimming Social
Calling all campers!
Dear Camp Families,
Non-stop excitement returns to JCC Summer Camps in 2015! We’ve created some new camps, added activities, and “amped-up” our programming so that campers will be engaged and enriched all summer long!
Whether you are within our walls or out on our fields, at the pool or on the playground - our beautiful Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center campus is a place where relationships are born that will last a lifetime.
Campers have the opportunity to explore the world on a weekly field trip, dress up to show their team spirit, or compete in the all-time favorite - Color Wars. We also have special
activities such as an all-camp sleep-over, afternoon Chugs (elective activities the campers can choose from such as waterpolo or cheerleading) and ice cream at the end of each day. To top it off, our experienced and caring counselors and supervisors, whose sole focus is on keeping your camper entertained, engaged and safe, will help provide memories that will bring a smile to your child’s face for years to come.
We offer many different camps to meet the needs of every camper. Our Traditional Camp includes instructional and free swim, arts and crafts, sports, and spirit and song festivals. Our Traditional Sports camp focuses on all sports so that your camper can participate in team activities in a non-competitive environment as well as daily free swim each day. Our Specialty Camps include: intensive sports training, art, theatre, dance, science, cooking, tumbling, and more! Each week we have activities and free field trips that have a special theme for the campers to learn about new things in a fun and interactive way.
We follow the highest standards when it comes to ensuring the safety and security of your camper. Our low staff to camper ratios ensures that each child receives individualized attention. We take pride in being one of the few summer camp programs in this area that is licensed by the Department of Health and Human Services.
Members enjoy other benefits and special pricing that the JCC has to offer such as access to our fitness center and pool, after-school programs and enrichment classes, family programs and special events and so much more! Stop by our membership office for more details or call 480.634.4909.
We look forward to seeing you at Camp!

TRADITIONAL CAMPS
Ruach On The GoGrades 5-8Don’t stay home, get out and about! Ruach On The Go camp is designed to build strong pre-teen minds, by experiencing a wide range of activities both at the JCC and around the Valley. Ruach On the Go provides an extraordinary and unique day camp experience that offers camp-favorite activities such as sports, swimming, arts & crafts, drama and music, and also includes two field trips each week. The first field trip is focused on fun and the second trip is an amazing experience for everyone when our campers give back with a community service project! Some of our past community service activities have been washing ambulances, volunteering at animal shelters, visiting with seniors, as well as opportunities to learn about how to better appreciate and protect our environment. By the end of the summer, our Ruach campers will grow to be stronger, more thoughtful, and more independent tweens.

COURAGE!
Grades 9-10Our Counselor-In-Training (CIT) and Leadership Program offers the tools needed to be a successful camp counselor and a productive member of our community, while still providing a memorable and exciting camp experience full of friendships and fun. It’s a hybrid between traditional camp and a leadership training program. Campers will be split up among the different camps offered at Shemesh Summer Camp, where they will gain experience and knowledge from our counselors as they help lead our younger campers through activities and exercises. For the second half of the day, the CITs meet as a group where our C.I.T. Supervisor, along with different guest leaders and speakers, guide them through specific workshops and activities designed to teach responsibility, time management, leadership, public speaking, confidence, and childcare.
Our CIT camp is an amazing opportunity for any teen looking to broaden their skills and gain work experience
while having fun in a safe environment. By the end of our Counselor in Training and Leadership program, your teen will be ready to take on any challenge with the experience gained at Shemesh Summer Camp.

COLOR WARS
Don’t miss out on one of the most exciting weeks of camp – Color Wars! We’re making a change to the format this year so that every camper will participate in activities and events throughout the week. While there is competition between the teams, it is friendly and fun and all campers will feel that they can contribute to their team.
Campers and staff are broken into five different color teams and compete for points in a variety of activities focused on teamwork, creativity and spirit. Campers and staff alike show their spirit by dressing in their team color for the entire week. Everyone looks forward to traditional Color War activities, such as Watermelon Eating Contest, Penny Wars, balloon shaving, and bubblegum blowing. The week culminates with the Color War Finale where the teams present banners & skits, and face off in a spirited song contest featuring a cheer and march. The winning team receives the coveted Spirit Stick and 1st Place Ribbons!!!!
This week is full of energy, excitement, competition and most importantly, FUN!
