What is sheltered housing?Self contained homes specially designed for older people. Youcan enjoy the opportunity of living independently in your ownflat whilst also being part of a small secure community. Anintercom system ensures your home is secure and only invitedguests can gain access.

If you have high care needs and require extra-care shelteredhousing your social worker or care professionals will need tomake a referral through the information and access team.

Is it for me?Sheltered housing could be foryou if:

l you have mental health orphysical support needs

l you have been acceptedonto the council's housinglist

l are aged 55 or over

Your support and careA Scheme Manager is on call Monday to Friday 9am to 5pmexcept Bank Holidays just in case you need them. Your flatwould be linked to a 24hour community alarm system providing you with around the clock emergency cover.

All of the schemes have a garden that you can enjoy.There are lounge areas whereyou can meet up with otherresidents for a chat or just torelax. Sheltered housingshould have everything youneed to make your life comfortable.

Your homeYou will have your own flat:

l with your own front door

l use of guest bedrooms

l shared washing machinesand laundry facilities

l at some schemes hairdressing lounges, computer rooms, quietreading rooms and assistedbathrooms for those whoneed help and assistancewith bathing

Extra supportIf you or someone you knowneeds daily help with their personal care but they wantto continue to live independently Extra CareSheltered Housing could bethe right option.

You will be given a needsassessment to find out if youare eligible.

How do I apply?If you or someone you know is interested in sheltered or extracare housing contact the Housing Options Team on 020 7527 4140.

We will send your completed referral form to Circle 33 Trust.You will be visited by an Assessment Officer who will assessyour application and give you information about the schemesavailable and advise you how long you may expect to wait foran offer. You should get up to two offers of sheltered housingand an assessment officer will regularly contact you.

Where could I move to?Circle 33 Trust, a local based housing association, own most ofthe sheltered housing in Islington. You will be able to view the accommodation before deciding if you want to move in. Yourhome would be a one-bedroom flat in one of the schemes listed below.
