Tube vs Hoist Lifting – An Important Distinction

When analysing a sheet lifting application, one of the fundamental choices is whether to use a vacuum tube lifter or a hoist with vacuum attachment.

A tube lifter uses a vacuum pump for the vertical lift of the sheet as well as the gripping of the sheet itself. There are three main advantages:

The grip and lift controls are completely integrated giving a faster, smoother lift with less movements for the operator.The vacuum pump provides the high airflow required for lifting porous sheets.In the event of power failure a tube lifter will enable the load to be lowered back to the ground where an electric hoist cannot.

By contrast, a conventional hoist can have a foot attached to the bottom of it. The foot is powered by either compressed air or electricity and vacuum is used only for gripping the sheet. This configuration also has its advantages:
