Requirement of mutton is increasing day by day

Mutton Produced 782.1 Th Ton

To meet the high demand fattening is done to get mutton in a short time with high marbling and increased palatability

Fattening also done before certain events such as Eid-ul-Fitr and Eidul- Azha

Intensive

Animals are tied during the day and put into a protective shelter at night

The flock/herd grazes over large areas of marginal land

The animals are confined to yards and shelters and feed is brought to the flock

Housing

Adaption Period

Timing the start of animal on feed is critical

when started on feed, brought gradually from a high roughage-low concentrate to a high concentrate-low roughage ration over several weeks.

Series of rations that are changed every two to three days to enable Animal to adapt to a high-concentrate ration within 15 to 20 days.

Page 15: Sheep And Goat Fattening Program

Best System for both spp. Is grazing with supplement feeding of high energy concentrate ration

Consume 2 percent of their body weight dry matter from the grazing

1.5-2.0 percent body weight from supplement concentrate

Coccidiosis, ET, Acidosis and foot rot

Fed on total mixed ration having dry roughages and concentrate with little supplemented green fodder

Concentrate ration +wheat straw in 60:40 ratio CP=15% ,TDN= 65% Conserve the energy Feed additives Green fodder ……………. vitamin

Page 16: Sheep And Goat Fattening Program

Concentrates are those feeds which are low in fibre and high in energy And used for feedlot fattening

Maize, Barley, Oats, Sorghum, Bajra, Grams, beet pulp/beet molasses and cane molasses……………….Energy

High digestible carbohydrates and have low content of indigestible fibre

Protein content of cereals 8-10% and TDN 70-80% Cottonseed Cake And Meal, Rapeseed Cake and Meal, Corn

Gluten Feed and Meal, Sunflower Meal, Linseed Meal, Sesame Cake………………..Protein

Page 17: Sheep And Goat Fattening Program
Page 18: Sheep And Goat Fattening Program
Page 19: Sheep And Goat Fattening Program

Good quality feedstuff, which are palatable free from fungus growth and any contaminations

Roughages are harvested at proper stage Early hour of the day 50% of the daily requirement of the

concentrate i.e. 1% Grazing for few hours so that animals can consume 2%

of their body weight green fodder 1% of the body weight of the concentrate ration is offered

in the evening in the shed

In TMR systemThe fodder along with dry and/or green fodder is offered twice a day along with concentrate ration

Free Access To Water

Page 20: Sheep And Goat Fattening Program

The following data is recorded to evaluate the performance of the animals Initial body weight at zero day of each

animals Fortnightly body weight during the period

of fattening of each Average daily total feed offered Average daily fodder offered Date and dose of deworming and

vaccination and health record of animals
