Emphasis( 强调 )

1. 用助动词“ do （ does ／ did ）＋动词原形”来表示强调：

He does learn English well ． He did tell me the news.

Do write to me when you get there ．

Do teach him a

2. 用形容词 very ， only ， single ， such等修饰名词或形容词来加强语气：

3. 用 very, just, ever, terribly, awfully, definitely, truly, rea

4. 用 in the world ， on earth ， at all 等介词短语可以表达更强的语气（常用于疑问句）：

　 What in the world is he doing ？ 他到底在干什么？ 　 Today it is not hot at all.

5. 用感叹句来表示强烈的感情，突出说话人的情感：

How interesting a story it is ！ 这是一个多么有趣的故事啊！ Oh, what a lie ！ 啊，真是弥天大谎！

6. 用倒装句（也就是将要强调的句子或被强调的部分置于句首）来加强语气：

On the table were some flowers. 桌上摆着一些花。 ( 强调地点 ) Only in this way, can we solve this problem ． 只有这样 , 我们才能解决这个问题。 Happy are those who are content. 知足常乐

7. 强调句型用来强调一个句子中除谓语以外的任何句子成分。

It is /was + 被强调成分 +that (who/whom) + 其他成分

问句形式：

一般疑问句： Is/Was it + 被强调部分 + that + ----

Is it the dictionary that you are looking for?

Was it yesterday that he was fired?

What is it that you want me to do ?

Who was it that told you the news?

When was it that you got up this

morning?

How was it that you succeeded?

特殊问句：疑问词 +is/was +it +that

注意 :当强调 not…until结构时，必须将 not until连用 ,后面接肯定式。

The teacher didn’t stop his lesson until the bell rang. (改成强调句）

It was not until the bell rang that the teacher stopped his lesson.

It was not until his father came that the boy began to do his homework.

Listening to the formal language all the characters used was really tiresome! Mary had to say to me, “ Do think twice before you choose a film!” I’m not unhappy about what she said. It is the time wasted on the film that I’m unhappy about. Mary and I made an agreement never to see such a film again. Maybe next time we can see a musical!
