THE GRANDE MAISON

It was in 1833, at the heart of the remote Swiss Jura valley, that Antoine LeCoultre founded the rst workshop of what would become the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Swiss watch industry pioneer revolutionised the eld of precision by inventing the rst pinion-cutting machine. A decade later, he created the world’s rst instrument capable of micron-level measurements: the Millionometer. The founder’s inventive spirit, perpetuated from generation to generation, has enabled the Grande Maison to register almost 400 patents and create 1,231 mechanical movements – an absolute record in the watchmaking world. United under one roof, over 180 watchmaking professions ranging from the rarest manual crafts to cutting-edge technologies enable the creation of exceptional timepieces from A to Z.

THE LIVING LEGEND

The Reverso watch was born in 1931, at a time when British colonial army of cers stationed in India dreamed of nding a timepiece able to withstand the rough and tumble of polo tournaments. In response to this daunting challenge, the Manufacture came up with a simple yet brilliant solution in the shape of the swivel case. The Reverso was nonetheless not solely destined to assert itself on polo elds. Its elegance and customisable case-back aroused immediate enthusiasm among devotees of Fine Watchmaking and aesthetes with a taste for Art Deco styling. Since 1931, the Reverso has acquired authentic iconic status and has been constantly reinvented by the Jaeger-LeCoultre artisans and watchmakers, in terms of both design and function. Within the Manufacture, cases and movements are simultaneously developed and produced, which means each calibre is perfectly tted to the shape of the

case, be it round or rectangular. Aestheticre nement and technical excellence go hand in hand, in harmony with one of the cardinal values of Jaeger-LeCoultre: integrity.

Master watchmakers at the pinnacle of refinement develop

Jaeger-LeCoultre's latest collection

A long time ago, back in 1931, in a dusty vortex and to the accompaniment of

horses’ hooves hammering, an idea was born: a watch with a dial that could protect itself from shocks, all the while offering a personalised engraved case-back. Eighty years later, the Reverso has progressed from watchmaking icon to cult status.

The Reverso is so unique that with the passing of time, it has been made in many other guises without losing its essence. Today, wearing a Reverso from the current collections on your wrist is an entry to an exclusive world – not only in terms of watchmaking history, but above all to a universe of technical perfection and aesthetic refinement.

By inventing the Reverso, a small group of men with great imagination and innovative spirit did far more than create a simple reversible case. They gave birth to an emotion which has lasted more than 80 years, and designed a watch whose endless possibilities are still being discovered.

The account of the conception of the Reverso, born in India in response to English polo players’ desire for an unbreakable watch, is even more amazing than it first seems.

A LEGEND IN mOvEmENT

SARTORIAL.

13.

❱ Success of a timelessly classic styleToday, the Reverso will appear in even more surprising and seductive guises, while remaining loyal to its legend that continues to push the borders of creativity.

By imagining a reversible watch with a case that would revolve in order to protect the dial and expose only the metal back to shocks, the designers of the Reverso knew that they had found an effective technical answer to the challenge that was given them: “to create an elegant watch capable of surviving polo”!

They undoubtedly were not aware that their idea was gearing up to play another very different role than that of protective shield. The steel or gold back that could be made to appear by turning the case was going to write a new page in the history of watchmaking. A clean page that would make the Reverso much more than a watch: a cult object that every Reverso owner could make unique by personalising it.

Thanks to the surface that measures just a few square centimetres offering everyone the chance to realise their wishes in terms of personalisation, the Reverso became a watch-

work of art and an object of emotion, to be transferred or shared.

Over the decades, as its dimensions evolved, becoming smaller for the feminine version and larger for the masculine versions from the 1990s onwards, its inimitable style remained unchanged, even when its rectangular case became square.

The case was crafted in steel and in every shade of gold, models were set with precious stones, the dials appeared with various motifs and colours and a variety of straps and bracelets were developed: the unique and yet multi-faceted Reverso proved to be an ideal field of expression for creativity and refinement.

❱ Grande Reverso Ultra ThinAfter 80 years of celebrating classicism, the new Grande Reverso Ultra Thin turns revolutionary by focusing on extreme simplicity. The extremely diminutive width of Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 822 (at just 2.94 mm) has enabled the design engineers to build a Reverso slimmer than ever before. While the case with its generous new proportions asserts an authentic presence on the wrist, its slenderness makes it both light

and comfortable to wear thanks to its subtly curved shape.

This new watch expresses the very essence of the Reverso personality: a blend of tradition and nobility embodying an alliance of style and elegance.

❱ Grande Reverso CalendarA steel or pink gold case surrounds the silver-toned dial. The traditional finishing accentuates the geometrical shape of the collection, enhancing the classically understated stage set for a distinctive horological complication.

The watch indicates the day and month on respective discs appearing through two apertures at 12 o’clock, along with the date at 6 o’clock encircling the moon phases. The traditional arrangement of the conventional time indication via central hour and minute hands is focused on essentials and on ensuring optimal readability. The vertical satin-brushed dial finish frames a hand-guilloché motif reminiscent of pocket-watches.

One of a kind Brisbane CBD masterpiece

Living on Eagle Street is a draw card in itself. The accessibility to

Brisbane CBD, the unique City Cats and fine dining all accessible by foot is only offered in a handful of residential buildings. Of those residential buildings, Harry Siedler's Riparian Plaza stands out as the most unique and prestigious offering to take up residence.

Positioned on the 46th floor, this luxury Condo offers three oversized suites, all encompassing ethereal views, three separate bathrooms and unrivalled, six near-lift, private car spaces. An expansive open plan living and entertainment space featuring extensive glass windows and doors along its entire length, exposes the light show of Brisbane’s CBD at night and provides a sense of floating above the world by day.

For the fortunate few to call this iconic residential tower home, privacy and serenity is assured with only four residences per floor, each with a unique aspect and outlook. This residence

features mesmerizing views over the heart of the Brisbane City from front and rear balconies as well as the distant mountains that provide a wonderful sunset panorama. From the forward facing large balcony, Brisbane’s river serpentines before your very eyes and draws your attention closer to the iconic Story Bridge, effortlessly capturing your gaze as you observe life unfolding some hundred meters below your feet. What were once two spectacular side-by-side residences has been opportunistically acquired and masterfully created into one, architect created marvel of grand proportions.

Natural stone, timber and glass all seamlessly blend to create a visually alluring experience immediately upon entrance. The custom built kitchen offers a wonderful butlers galley, impeccable appliance fit out and fully illuminated natural onyx bench top to tie in beautifully with the lashings of natural onyx in the common areas within this exclusive residential tower.

26.

For times of practicality, a sliding timber panel emerges from within the walls to separate the kitchen; dining and entertaining areas form the second living and lounge towards the additional bedrooms in an entirely different wing of the home, all of which are serviced with their own bathroom featuring custom fit out, games room and balcony with panoramic Brisbane CBD and river views.

The sheer space on offer, over 5,700 square feet, taking up half the entire

floor of the building is such a unique offering it is unmatched presently on the market in the Brisbane CBD. Built to be a luxury central CBD residence of epic proportions, it has fortuitously become available due to a lack of use and will almost certainly not present again.

From the 24 hour security, to the private concierge, Riparian Plaza is Brisbane's most exclusive and tightly held residential tower. Simply owning in this establishment is an achievement.

SHAW Group is proud to introduce a new class of agent

With months of intensive training behind him, having played a part in

numerous multi-million dollar deals and the intense negotiation behind each one, Andy McMaster is now stepping out from the shadow of his boss and mentor, Lewis Shaw and into his own spotlight.

The newly formed SHAW Condo’s division is his passion. With the local knowledge and drive to create unrivalled service within the industry he is already showing early success in his chosen field. Andy attributes most of it to providing what clients are really seeking, by not only selling but living it as well. We discover more about what drives this successful young agent:

❱ What drew you to the real estate industry?Lifestyle was a big factor for me; I love the freedom that real estate represents. I’m a big believer in the saying “the harder you work, the luckier you get” and real estate is very much in line with that, what you get out of it is directly linked to how much you put into it.

❱ Why did you decide to enter the industry so young?Simply the fact that I don’t see age as a barrier, you just have to be committed to being the best that you can be. I have been Fortunate enough to be mentored by Lewis Shaw and gaining my full license in under 3 months has been a real asset.

❱ What did you do before you entered real estate?I was a fashion photographer previously, photographing in some of the most amazing places on earth with some of

the most beautiful people. A lot of people question my move from fashion photography to real estate how ever it was such an easy transition, I have a passion for presenting things in the best possible light and getting the image across to the target market and with real estate I get to do that every day without the need to edit images on the computer for 7 days straight!

❱ What difference can people expect when dealing with you? This is where my age is an advantage; I’m usually at the office working until the late hours of the night and more often than not the early hours of the morning. I genuinely love what I do in real estate, and when you love what you do it becomes your life not your job.

❱ Why SHAW?Coming from an industry where image is everything I of course looked for the agency with exquisite branding and somewhere that thinking outside the box was the normal thing to do. I love the marketing that SHAW does, it adds so much value to something when you present it the way we do.

❱ You have a passion for entrepreneurship and bucking the usual trends with innovation, so how does it fit into your role as a real estate agent?I’d say it fits perfectly, it means I’m unique and in an industry like real estate uniqueness is not overly present. It comes down to my work ethic and how hard I work to make sure my clients are happy, whether that is a phone call every day to update them or working through the night in order to get a deal over the line.

For each bespoke Mulsanne, the journey from commission

to creation takes around 500 hours in Bentley’s Crewe workshops...

MOTORING.

HAvE YOU GOT TImE TO SPARE?

49.

❱ Looking to the past to refine the presentWhile paying homage to past Bentley greats, the brief for the new Mulsanne’s design and engineering teams was to create a Bentley that represents the pinnacle of British luxury motoring. The new Mulsanne, designed and engineered at Crewe from the ground-up, reaffirms the marque’s intent to create a new flagship Bentley with refined performance, unparalleled levels of interior luxury and coach building skills to the fore.

❱ A pure expression of Bentley designThe design of the new Mulsanne is a unique fusion of sportiness, coach built elegance and solidity. Echoing the Bentley S-Type of the 1950s, the Mulsanne features a bold design dominated by the traditional Bentley matrix grille.

Design Director Dirk van Braeckel explains the inspiration behind the Mulsanne’s distinctive appearance: “The opportunity to design a new

flagship Bentley is something afforded to very few designers. The team set out to create a sculpted form that blended classic Bentley heritage cues with modern lines.”

The body is produced in a new manufacturing facility at Bentley’s headquarters in Crewe where traditional metalworking skills, developed over six decades, are still used extensively during the nine week build process. It is the very opposite of volume production car building...but the very epitome of Bentley.

❱ Sumptuous interior meets advanced technologyAs Head of Interior Design, Robin Page says: “Over 170 hours – almost half the entire build process – goes into crafting the interior of the new Mulsanne. At Crewe, Bentley’s way of working is the opposite of mass production – we start where others stop.” The latest in-car technologies are discreetly placed within the Mulsanne’s sumptuous interior. The upper

dashboard houses an 8-inch multimedia screen, positioned unobtrusively behind an electrically operated veneered door, while below sits a stylish, leather-lined media player stowage drawer. The entire cabin is encased within a ‘ring of wood’ waist rail with an unbroken panel of wood gracing the Mulsanne’s dashboard.

These exquisite materials are fashioned by craftsmen and women with up to 40 years’ experience – each steering wheel, for example, taking up to 15 hours alone to hand-stitch.

❱ Re-engineered V8 engine and new chassisWhen developing the engine for the Mulsanne, engineers set themselves three challenges. First, the engine needed to produce effortless torque from extremely low revs. Secondly, it should maintain the highest levels of refinement at any speed. Thirdly, and of equal importance, it would need to satisfy strict environmental emissions standards for years to come. It became clear that these targets, along with the massive torque that is such a trademark of every grand Bentley, could be best achieved with a V8 engine.Prodigious power and torque are complemented by an all-new chassis, unique to the new Mulsanne. Both lighter and stiffer than previous flagship Bentleys, the new chassis benefits both ride and handling.

Taking its inspiration from some of the greatest of W.O. Bentley’s creations of yesteryear, the Mulsanne generates its own echoes of that remarkable era. This is a car that makes the joy of driving its central focus. Whether you are behind the wheel or as a passenger, every journey is an event.

❱ The Bentley Mulsanne can be seen at Bentley Brisbane. Paul Piert and the team are excited to show you through the Mulsanne and the entire Bentley range. Contact Bentley Brisbane to arrange an appointment today on +61 7 3257 7222.

❱ Hiking the island of CorsicaCorsica is an island in the Mediterranean with a history and culture all of its own. It's a French island with a landscape of forested mountains, open pastures, rolling grapevines and beautiful beaches. The island is best explored on foot – there is a network of over 1500 kilometres of mountain trails and walking tracks. You can stay in a local village and head out each morning to explore a different part of the island – visit secluded beaches, hilltop towns, ancient mountain forests and quaint fishing villages. It is simply spectacular walking.

❱ Cycle the lavender fields of ProvenceProvence is well-known for its rolling lavender fields, tree-lined lanes and beautiful regional produce and cuisine. It's the perfect region for a leisurely cycle tour, riding from village to village, stopping for lunch at a local bistro, or visiting a regional producer. Wander your way down country laneways and into cobbled towns. Traverse the Luberon mountain range or ride up through historic Merindol for beautiful views over the Durance Valley. Whatever your cycling abilities, this region offers the perfect tour.

❱ Food, wine and landscape – Tuscany in depthIf your passion is food and wine, consider an in-depth exploration of Italy's famous Tuscany region. The rolling green hills, quaint hilltop villages, and outstanding cuisine make this area captivating. The region is compact so there's opportunity to visit several of the delightful local towns

❱ Trek through the spectacular AlpsIf serious mountains are more your style, consider France's famous Mont Blanc region. Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the European Union and it is snow-capped year round. The circuit trail offers absolutely spectacular mountain views of glaciers, high passes, rocky peaks and mountain fields of wildflowers. It's a tough hike but the sense of achievement – combined with the striking alpine beauty – is plenty of reward.

❱ Italy's charming southPuglia is the heel of the boot that is Italy. It's a coastal region with a fascinating depth of history, sprawling right back to prehistoric times. Stay in seaside towns that cling to the cliffs above the azure waters. Wander the medieval streets in search of local specialities (such as panzerotti – filled pastry pockets – and taralli – a type of savoury donut). Discover the world-heritage town of Alberobello, famous for its trulli huts. Explore the charming city of Matera, home to the Sassi – ancient cave homes carved into the cliffs. Wandering at a leisurely pace through this less-touristed region of Italy, you will discover a fascinating agricultural lifestyle dating back centuries.

❱ Try Le Tour for yourselfFor a real challenge consider cycling in the tracks of the Tour de France. Tackle the classic summits such as the Col d'Aspin and

the gruelling Col du Tourmalet. It will give you a new appreciation for the strength and endurance of the Tour riders, not to mention a solid workout for yourself! You'll also gain a remarkable insight into these beautiful mountainous regions of France.

❱ Seaside strolling at the Cinque Terre

The Cinque Terre is a coastal region of Italy named after the five towns that are strung along the spectacular rugged coast.

Steep terraces line the hillsides, covered in olive groves and grape vines, while the towns cling precariously to the cliff edges, overlooking sparking waters. The five towns are linked by a walking track which winds its way along the coast, sometimes hanging just above the water, and sometimes venturing up the hillside amongst the terracing. Tackle a segment of the trail each day and take the train back to your village base for an evening of local wine and delicious Italian seaside fare.

Over the centuries, the Cinque Terre people have built terraces on the rugged landscape that overlook the Italian Riviera.

Like no other city in the world, Venice, Italy balances on both land and water (as shown from the Rialto Bridge spanning the Grand Canal).

❱ And the classicsOf course if you haven't spent much time in France or Italy, you'll need to tick off the classics too. In France – Paris, the Loire Valley, Mont St Michel, and the French Riviera. In Italy – Rome, Florence, Siena, Venice, and Milan. These are places of such beauty, such history and culture that they are almost clichés. But there is no substitute for them. They are amazing, awe-inspiring places that deserve the attention they get.

Whatever you want from your holiday, Italy and France can cover all bases. You can put together any combination of active adventure, regional discovery and city exploration to make your perfect trip.

CREATIvE ITALIAN

WITH CoBey PArneLL

57.

As modern diners, we all know using the freshest ingredients, bright lively colours and

minimal yet exciting flavours is always the best place to begin when creating the finest dishes for the worlds cuisines. However, to be truly creative is something completely different. Peter Milos, Executive Chef of Mariosarti Restaurant Bardon and Toowong, had this very thought in mind when he embarked on his mission to create and achieve an unheard of style of restaurant – Creative Italian.

Italian cuisine has experienced its fair share of namesakes and innuendo’s, different restaurants refer to their style as ‘classic’, ‘traditional’, even ‘modern’ but never Creative; Peters ability to think laterally and not being afraid of new, unheard-of methods has enabled him to discover this different style of restaurant and cuisine.

We sat down with Peter as he was putting the finishing touches on the soon to be released new menu at Mariosarti. An insightful lesson in passion and discovery of what drives a leading Italian cuisine chef ensued. Like a true Italian, Peter implements an extraordinary level of passion into not only the creation of his culinary masterpieces but also the simple explanation of what is about to be created. Even in the conceptual phase, it is a delight to experience first hand the love and genuine desire Peter exudes when discussing his next work of art, ready to be consumed in a matter of minutes by the end recipient.

A perfect example of Peter’s inspiration came out when he explained to us a new dish he had literally created from scratch. A unique invitation was extended to join him in his kitchen and watch this creation unfold for the very first time. Titled Orecchiette con Guanicale I Cavolfiore, it is created by using a base of some classical Italian ingredients and flavour combinations and of course Peters imagination. The dish was created on the exact day of the seasons passing which is where the inspiration was drawn from using a combination of classical winter ingredients and seasonal spring ingredients. Orecchiette con Guanicale I Cavolfiore consists of a cured pork check, cauliflower and chili and is finished with hand picked zucchini flowers and fresh cut mint which exudes a pungent aroma juxtaposing the two seasons. A sensual delight, as all fine meals should be, let’s see if this magical delight makes it onto the new menu at Mariosarti restaurant.

Taking inspiration from all walks of life, places, styles and bringing it all together has helped produce the new menu for Mariosarti – the Creative Italian Menu. Peter welcomes you to join him in the coming weeks to try his new menu for yourself.
