    April 2010

    Dear Local Business Owner,

Labours proposed increase of 1% in National Insurance is a tax on jobs. It will come atexactly the wrong time in the economic cycle as Britain tries to climb out of the worstrecession in 60 years.

There are now over 80 prominent business leaders who have called for this tax on jobs tobe scrapped. They have welcomed Conservative plans to start reducing government wastenow, rather than waiting until 2011.

As the business leaders have said: Cutting government waste will not endanger therecovery but putting up national insurance will.

Please see overleaf for the letter that business leaders have signed up to, I am asking youif you would like to add your name to this growing list.

In Hammersmith, one of the key challenges is the struggle that small businesses face withhigh business rates and a weak economic environment. And if we are to get unemploymentin Hammersmith down, you need the support of central government to help our residents.

Together, we can get our economy moving again.

    Yours sincerely,

Shaun BaileyConservative Parliamentary Candidate for Hammersmith

    BUSINESS LEADERS LETTER

The Government's proposal to increase national insurance, placing an additional tax on jobs, comes atexactly the wrong time in the economic cycle. In a personal capacity, we welcome George Osbornes planto stop the proposed increase in national insurance by cutting Government waste. In the last two years, businesses across the country have cut their costs without undermining the service they provide to their

customers. It is time for the Government to do the same.Few would argue that the state cannot improve. In the last few years, the private sector has improved itsproductivity by around 20 per cent, while productivity in the public sector has fallen by three per cent.Savings can be made by removing the blizzard of irrelevant objectives, restrictive working practices, arcaneprocurement rules and Whitehall interference. Mr Osbornes announcement marks the beginning of thisdebate. As taxpayers we would welcome more efficiency in government.

As businessmen we know that stopping the national insurance rise will protect jobs and support therecovery.

Cutting government waste wont endanger the recovery but putting up national insurance will.
