Hi Everyone: What a great turnout we had at the April meeting. 81 people came out to hear Cassie Zucco’s presentation on SMPA claim and see the slide show. Hopefully everyone can get out and enjoy our beautiful area plus take advantage of our claims. Speaking of claims...CAUTION when going to our Big Dog Claim. Sev-eral members have had long discussions with the neighbor down creek from the claim. I have been informed to pass to all members not to go alone to the claim. Having said that, we are good neigh-bors and we have a right to be there. We are also good stewards of the environment around there. Lots of events coming up with Redding School of Arts asking for a panning team. We will also be able to pass on to children our North State Heritage and culture of mining. The Shasta District Fair is just around the corner and plans are being made to keep folks cooler as they volunteer. June 20-23. If you wish to volunteer please call Mike Russell or myself at 530-3477436 Happy Prospecting, Cindy

Please check the SMPA Website under Special Announce-ments to see if any outing that is regularly scheduled is changed or canceled because of weather.

quest and comment to Dave Fuller at [email protected].

President Cindy Russell called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Red Passman led the members in the flag salute. Cindy welcomed everyone and called for all guests and new members to introduce themselves. President Russell introduced the Officers, Board Members, and Chairmen. Announcements from the President: Check out the Find of the Month and Show and Tell during the break. The Redding School of the Arts is requesting demonstration for their school, date to be determined. The Mining Display repair at the fairgrounds will take place soon. Volunteers sign-up with Mike Russell. We have received donations of material from Dick Kingsmore and Cyrus Herrera. There will be no general meeting in June due to the demands of the fair and many members attending the Idaho Hunt. Miner of the Month Miner of the Month is Red Passman for all the help with the Boat & RV Show. Education Program Cassie Zucco provided a PowerPoint program showing direction, location, and photos of:

Can Do Claim Browns Creek Claim French Gulch Claims, Bull Dog 1,2, & 4 Big Dog Claim, I-5 exit 707

Jim Rankin—displayed his homemade pump for removing sand from the bottom of the creek “technically, so far” should be legal. Ray Mills is recovering from pneumonia and will be available for weekends using “Gold Monster” to take out small groups. He recommends that you become familiar with your detector and headphones. Don’t change the coil—stick to one that you know. Headphones are also important. His book is still available at the Miner’s Cache, and will soon be available in e-book form. He has a new book coming out soon. Member Wellness Chip Hess—had two stints put in recently. Diana Clayton—also had a stint put in. Howard Waldron—is in the hospital, with “stroke like” symptoms, but as yet undetermined illness. Jim Stevens—is now home from the hospital, but is still receiving anti-biotic infusions for his leg infection. Claims Report—Chairman Mike Abernathy Mike will host the April outing at the Big Dog Claim, Saturday, April 21, 9:00 am. He will place orange cones to help locate the claim. He does not recommend any gravity dredging because of insufficient slope at the claim, but a sluice or pan, etc. is acceptable. A port-a-potty will be available. Hidden Coin—Tom Kibat The coin has not been found—Tom checked. Tom will provide more clues. Find of the Month: Find of the Month was won by Burl Crocfer for his find of gold from Salt Creek, Weaverville. Treasurer’s Report Treasurer Wayne King provided the following report, as of April 19, 2018: Total Assets $6,950.84 A copy of Wayne’s report is submitted with these minutes. Logo Clothing—Mary Ann Stevens Hoodies, and tank tops are available and Mary Ann will be placing an order so get in touch if you have any requests. Membership---Mike Russell Membership is up and we have 17 new members this month. Legislative Report—Bob Burdett Bob reminded everyone that assessment work must be done and “Small Miner’s Waiver” must be filed every year. Fish & Wildlife or BLM may check. Bob also discussed the removal of the dams along the Klamath River. Some 15 million cubic yards of sediment is estimated to be washing down the river by the year 2020, but no one has discussed the damage that this may cause. Once again Erin Ryan from Doug LaMalfa’s office is active on this issue. Update from Jim Rankin

The AMRA is trying to re-define dredging with SB 1222, to allow high banking. Current law, SB637, is a ban on dredging and high banking. The permitting process for dredging is estimated to go forward with only 2 to 3 permits being issued each month, at the cost of thousands

of dollars. It will effectively prohibit any small scale dredging. Our Federal Bills are going nowhere.

Chili Feed—Phyllis Bogges Phyllis thanked everyone for the help with the Chili Feed. The efforts raised $118.00 for the Association. Thank you Phyllis! Raffle Raffle was conducted by Cindy Russell, Mike Abernathy and Velva Landstaat:

50/50 Drawing—was won by Bill Schumpert, in the amount of $69.00. Gold Nugget—was won by Donna Davis. Name Tag Drawing—was won by David Votaw.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Susan J. Doyle, Secretary

I would like to thank all the men that came out to help repair the Mine at the fairgrounds last week. We reset the

new ties and track for the ore cart. It rolls out very easy now. We cleaned out the water trough and put in new grav-

el and reset the rock to receive water from the system. We put in new lights so we can see in the pump room. We

also set the studs for new doors being made by Mike to be set up also new shelves are planned for in the pump

room. The plumbing is being put in soon. Thanks guys for all your hard work. I know that most of you are putting

out humming bird feeders this time of year so here’s a tip on a real easy way to clean the bottle up. Take and fill it

up with hot water put in one halve of a denture cleaning tablet. Let it set for about 5 min then rinse with clear water.

Refill with sugar water and you are back in business. Woody Woodward. P.S. You can now get our new logo stick-

er for your bumper or window telling what our club does through our logo. They will be available at our hot shirt

table for about a DOLLAR

Hello fellow Miners, Another month has past! WOW, summer is upon us and I'm ready to hit the creeks! Anybody else ready? Let's go. We had a great time at the outing on April 21st. Everyone had their favorite spots already picked out and proceeded to them as soon as they arrived. The ones that were left over found a good spot and started to do some prospecting and mining. I was mining next to Bill S. and he was using this 6" wide by 18" long very mini sluice box! At first I thought "He's only going to find very small gold with that box if any at all"! Then he yelled over at me to look in his box, only to be amazed at the size of that picker at the top of his riffles and all the other pieces that were in the box also! I could hardly believe my eyes. I gave him thumbs up and he was all smiles! Jim and Emily Rankin were a little upstream from Bill S. and he was showing me how his new invention (sucker stick) was sucking up a lot of gravel. He too was pulling some nice pickers from his "honey hole". A new young couple and their dog spent the night before the outing and greeted us members as we started to arrive on the claim. I was able to chat with them for a while and help them set up their sluice box

and pet the dog. Think the dog was hungry or something, it kept nibbling at my hand. Bob and a couple of his friends showed and along with Russell and Joe were at the downstream portion of the claim. The Heemeyers were there as well as some new people that were happy to talk with me but, I never caught their names. All in all about 15 people and a dog were there to enjoy the day. On another note a property owner, he didn't give me his name (I did ask) had showed up to complain about how much he paid for his house and property and went on to say how he was going to get our claim revoked! All I could say to that was good luck! He then went over to speak with Jim Rankin. After that conversation he left, and he didn't even say good-bye! He later returned with his daughter in tow on a quad. He spoke to several of our members but, didn't threaten anyone. He was just being a BUTT! There are other words I'd like to use but you get my point! So, can I remind you not to go to this claim alone? Please bring someone with you so you don't get into a scrape with this guy! If anyone has a run in with anyone living up there and especially this guy please let me know so we can nip this in the bud! Have a good time at any of our claims and bring plenty of water, sunscreen and whatever else you might need to make it an enjoyable day! Michael Abernathy Claim's Chairman

April Metal Detecting Outing The outing at Red Bluff High School was attended by 7 members including, Howard Waldron, Ed Thurston, Tom Kibat, Dennis Paloma, Lorin Fleming, Fred Furry and me. We avoided the rain in the Redding area and the weather was pleasant and not a drop of rain fell during the outing. We all went home with coins and the find of the day went to Tom Kibat for his recovery of a brass wire wrapped ring. On our way home, Ed Thurston and I stopped at another location and found some coins and a small sterling silver ring. See you at the next meeting on May 17th. Bill
