What advice would you give your 18 year old self? How do you shine your light? What is your favorite podcast/book? 3 things you can’t live without? What’s a must have clothing/or beauty item everyone should own? SHARING SUNSHINE SHARING SUNSHINE Thank you for sharing with us! I know my readers will be so inspired! Much love, Sophie Hard work and persistence pays off! Starting out in the fashion industry, I always paved my own way. I sought out the companies I wanted to work for, approached them with what my dream role would look like and how I would make it happen! It once took me 3 years to land the role I wanted at a company in NYC. I finally told them they were hiring me and would be in the office on Monday…I was officially offered the job a week later! The owner of the company said I was so persistent he would let me take a swing at it just so I would leave him alone; eight years later, he is one of my best friends and Paris travel buddies! My light shines brightest when I get to see those around me light up. I treasure this incredible opportunity as Head of Fashion at Market. Getting to source new talent and meeting fledgling designers always provides a rush, but I relish the role I get to play in assisting them in growing their business. Seeing firsthand their dreams becoming a reality by buying the line, introducing it to our Market team and finally landing a coveted spot in our ladies closet! You can always tell when you assisted a client with nailing the perfect piece – they visibly light up! From finding something special for a birthday, to a first date, to a wedding - there is always something to celebrate here! I was given The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company by a friend and quickly sped through this on a recent beach vacation. I have also been tuning into the Business of Fashion podcasts on my morning walks. I typically end up typing out notes and many times listening to the same episodes again and again, discovering something new each time. Music! I have to start my day with an upbeat playlist. When traveling, I typically spend my time on flights creating new playlists from songs I hear throughout my trip. These playlists have been life savers during COVID. I can turn one on and instantly be taken back to that time and place. Team Market! The girls at the store are my family! I don’t know how they put up with me some days, but we always manage to have the most fun when we’re all together! And of course a new outfit! I always feel best … and am on time if I have something new to wear! (and by on time I mean at least an hour late... HA! A simple day to night dress!
