Feedback from students
I really appreciate the vocabulary section as I can save the new words, review and learn them whenever I want. (Siu Sun Wang F.6 Carmel Divine Grace Foundation Secondary School)
It’s an opportunity to improve my listening and speaking as I can listen to English spoken by different anchors with different accents. (Leung Wing Sum F.6 Carmel Divine Grace Foundation Secondary School)
I like “After Watching” the best as the content inspires me to think more about social issues. (Wan Pik Yi F6 CCC Tam Lee Lai Fun Memorial Secondary School)

TVnews 07/08 – Teacher Ideas samplesBased on a news clip entitled WWF launches new consumer seafood guide
to protect marine species a writing topic is suggested:
Most people in Hong Kong eat in restaurant. Write a restaurant review about a recent meal you have had. It could be about a fast food shop or even a dim sum restaurant.
Most reviews mention:
Title: Name & Address of restaurant
The atmosphere (your feelings when you first enter and sit at your table, the noise, music)
The service (waiting staff, any problems or unusual events)
The food (usually in order from first to last dish)
The drinks
The price
Finally, tell readers whether they should eat there.
This website has restaurant reviews written by students who are learning English. http://www.topics-mag.com/foods/restaurants/Rice/Village.htm

TVnews 07/08 – Teacher Ideas samplesBased on the same news clip, a discussion topic is suggested:
You are in the Environment Club of your school. You want to promote the WWF’s leaflet about marine species to your school. You have a budget of $1,000. Get into groups of four.
You may want to talk about:
• the problems of eating seafood, such as shark’s fin and abolone.
• ways to promote the leaflet, such as a talk, a poster or a drama.
• how to spend the $1,000.
• anything else you think is important.
Prepare for five minutes. You can take some brief notes. Think about questions to ask each other.
Have a 6 minute discussion.
As a class, find the most original way to promote this leaflet.
