• Formed in 2004; 501(c)(3) non-profit, HQ in Portland, OR

• Mission - Dedicated to accelerating adoption of green building practices

• Owns and distributes all licenses to Green Globes environmental assessment and rating system in US

• Offers Green Globes Professional (GGP) and Green Globes Assessor (GGA) training to qualified individuals to offer support and completion of the Green Globes rating/assessment system process

Green Globes Assessors – highly experienced

industry professionals who complete extensive training and testing and are authorized and individually assigned by the GBI to perform on-site, third-party building assessments and that can lead to the award of an official one through four Green Globes building rating/certification.

Buildings that have a predicted rating of 35% or more can pursue third-party assessment. Third-party assesment is required to publicize your building as a Green Globes rated/certified building.

One to four globes are possible and our recognition program includes a plaque and PR kit. Case study development is encouraged.

Defining the Program



GBI Personnel Certification • Green Globes® Personnel Certification programs support the

national adoption and growth of Green Globes by creating, maintaining, and growing a network of individuals authorized to assist the assessment and certification process.

• Candidates most usually are pool of architects, engineers, facility managers or construction personnel

• The program’s goal is to create professionals who: Are knowledgeable about best green building and management

practices; Are knowledgeable about the Green Globes assessment protocols; Are expert users with Green Globes assessment tools; and Are qualified to facilitate Green Globes building certifications on a

nationwide basis


Green Globes Assessor

• Candidates will be selected based on: Qualifications (10 years experience with an industry

designation) Location Regional demand Specific building type, environmental, or functional

expertise

• While a select number of applications will be approved for training and testing, the GBI is not required to guarantee work or a certain number of buildings in a given year.


Green Globes ® Assessor

• Are screened, reviewed and approved by the GBI technical committee

• Complete general training and pass a test common to all Green Globes personnel certification programs

• Complete a second training/test specific to performing Green Globes third party assessments

• Execute an employment contract with the GBI

• On behalf of the GBI, perform a probationary third party assessment mentored by an experienced assessor


Green Globes Professional

• The GGP designation will: expand the base of experts in green building best

practices focus on use of the Green Globes rating system

• Qualified candidates: five years experience in the building industry familiarity with current sustainability practices

Assessment protocol for both new and existing buildings and LCA;

Green Globes online assessment tools; Energy modeling, including use of the EPA’s
