• The following slides will highlight the components of the new Sharedwork website.

• These descriptions will serve as the starting place for learning the uses of Sharedwork, but there will be an ongoing dialog for all who are learning to use this site.

• Please do not hesitate to contact your state team leader or the IDEA Partnership staff if there are concerns or if further explanation is needed.

WIKI: What is it?

• Wikis are collaborative pages on the Sharedwork site which can be edited by the community or practice group members at the same time.

What You’ll See…

How can we use Wiki’s?• Wikis can be used in so many different ways. The IDEA Partnership staff has

been using wikis for the past year mainly for convening communities of practice and planning meetings and events.

• For example, this year’s annual meeting for the National Community of Practice on Transition was hosted on the wiki. The agenda, resources, working documents and issue workgroups were posted on the wiki prior to the meeting. Meeting notes were captured in real time by community members and edited and revised after the meeting. This collaborative tool allows for virtual participation of community members who could not participate in person.

Other well known ways of using wikis are:• Fact Sheets and frequently asked questions (FAQs) • Writing and editing a document collaboratively (not to be confused with

simultaneous editing)

How can we use Folders and Files?

• This is a repository which will provide access to documents for all members of state teams, activity groups and communities.

Blogs

How can we use Blogs?

• The blog feature can be used to engage people in knowledge sharing, reflection, and dialog.

• The most popular are topical blogs focused on a particular issue. Many of states and practice groups might think about this function by arranging a guest blogger.

Other ways of using blogs are: • Reporting back from an event • Tracking development over time • Collecting feedback

How can we use Events Calendar?

• The calendar function will allow community/practice group members to post upcoming events in one central location.

• This function will help with coordination of events and informing the community about meetings, calls, and webinars they might want to learn about.

• Great way for state teams to allow regional participants to put events on the calendar (This could document an entire states work in one place!)

Polls

How can we use Polls? A unique way to engage!

• The poll feature can be used to generate feedback on number of issues.

• It can also be used to facilitate interactions among sharedwork members, engage new members or reflect on current practice.

• Polls invite feedback and might be used to introduce individuals to the range of perspectives on issues that may be a subject of future work. (the start of new community work – convening new community work carried out through various venues – blogs, …)

How can we use Message Boards?

• Message Boards are broken down into Categories instead of folders.

• There are three main functions of a Message Board– 1) Questions from the field (“I need help…”)– 2) Information to the field (“I want you to know…”)– 3) Topics and issues (“I want to talk about…”)

How can we use Announcements? Different from Events…

• This is a repository of what has been announced such as; meetings, conferences, publications, a tool(s), etc…

• Announcements show up in two spots– 1) A brief synopsis of the most recent on main page– 2) The full information on the Announcement page
