Transcript of Shared responsibility for human rights and global …...• Tomislav Ivančić, Team Leader, DG Grow...
G7, OECD, SDGs have all put great emphasis on the need to foster sustainable supply chains. At a time when the European Commission (2016-19) is about to renew its CSR strategy, CSR Europe, in close collaboration with the European Parliament and Commission, will host an event to:
• Discuss how companies embed human rights into their functions as an on-going process which must always favour continuous improvement over box-ticking
• Explore how sector platforms support more companies to share and build coherent processes and capacities• How policy makers at national, European and international level can engage closer the business community to
support wider impact and accelerate progress
The purpose of this open forum is clear: how can we define a new chapter for business-EU collaboration to ensure better compliance and increased innovation for real impact? The status quo is not an option, closer collaboration is vital if we want Europe to continue playing a leadership role on human rights in sustainable supply chains at local and global level.
Open Forum
Shared responsibility for human rights and global value chains
16th March 2016
To define the next chapter of business-EU collaboration
Businesses increasingly need a stable international environment in which to operate, with sustainable markets and a “level playing field” of opportunities. Embedding human rights across functions offer a common framework for businesses to understand societies’ expectations and deliver value to stakeholders in a more sustainable way.
This morning session aims to:• Identify challenges and benefits that a human rights lens provides in product and service development to generate
positive impact on society• Discuss how European and national policy makers can support improvements to address human rights impact across
complex supply chains towards the creation of a level playing field • Launch CSR Europe’s Blueprint on “The 6 steps to embed Human Rights in Company functions” that addresses the
need of clarity on what effectively embedding human rights in an organisation means, through the analysis of company practices

This session, organised with the support of the Dutch Presidency, will explore how to:• Bring together more than 15 supply chain initiatives to discuss achievements and challenges• Provide a dialogue platform between EC policies and business initiatives, development agencies and stakeholders• Clarify how policy development and sector commitments can lead to impactful action• Discuss the three priority areas as defined by CSR Europe, which are:
