This is my achievementI am very intelligent. This is my invention - This is my creation.I have created all the wealth I have.' Ours is the era of assertions, branding and flaunting.

Ego, Ahmkaar, prevents us from acknowledging others contributions to ours lives. It makes us blind to the fact that in the history of mankind, there have always been antecedents to achievements.

Nature is not partial to any one human. It is we who have evolved systems tha beed ever widening inequities among us - inequities of wealth, education, skills, power, authority, justice.

Beneficiaries of this system often get inflated with I, my and me..ness. Others become lesser humans irritants, eye sores and obstructions to the glittering and thunderings chariot of development

These inequities and ego are seen exploding in violence everywhere today. Humanity is increasingly growing restive. The arrogant and egoistic are not at pace either.

Our scriptures and saint poets have passed on to us the shared wisdom that it is unbecoming of us humans to have aham.

In this 9th offering of Saanjhi Virasat, it is time to recall and tune-in to fainting voices of saint poetsagain.

Verses presented here are from different languages. Grammar and spellings have been retained as the sources referred by us.

Crush, Farid says, your ego. Beat and shatter it. Realize then the fullness of Gods treasures

    And luxuriate in it.

Farid, one of the leading Sufi saints, is considered the first poet of Punjabi language. Also wrote in Persian, Arabic, Hindvi and Urdu. He was often persecuted by the rulers

and fundamentalists for propagating the message of truth, humality and forgiveness. He lived an ascetic life in a reed

hut, kept one blanket and ate only oat chapati and wild flowers.

    (-) Baba Farid ( 1173 -1265)

Burn your ego, Bulleh Shah says.Go, throw your pride in the well.

Hey, rise above your being, Destination will emerge where you are.

This widely known Sufi saint of Punjab was a great poet from Lahore. His compositions have often been regarded as the pinnacle of Sufi literature. Inspired by Inayat Shah, Bulleh found a lifetime guru in him. Due to his unorthodox views, Mullahs had refused his burial.
