Growing in Christ

Showing God’s glory

Wednesday, December 4, 2019

VISION: Shalom will be a covenant family leading people to a growing union with Jesus Christ and showing the glory of God.

MISSION:

We invite everyone to cultivate a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ, celebrate in worship, care for and encourage each other, and communicate Christ to the world.

DEADLINE FOR WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS is Wednesday by 8:00am.

Pray for Kathy Banyai’s cousin, Mark Swedlund as he has been battling bladder cancer. Recent biopsy results were not as he had hoped. He will go to Mayo for more tests on December 9 and will also begin chemo.

Continue to pray for Linda Vis in her battle with cancer.

We rejoice with Zach and Molly Erickson in the birth of their son, Brett Daniel, born Thursday, November 21. He was early at 37 weeks, weighing 7lbs 11oz. Molly and baby are all doing great.

Joshua Bierma will be going to Minneapolis for a heart catheterization procedure this Friday, December 6. Please pray for no unexpected illness that would postpone the procedure. Also pray for peace for us as we await the results. The results of this procedure will determine if we can move forward with removing his IV at the end of the month. Please pray that the results will be favorable for this! It's hard to even fathom what life could be like without his IV. Thank you for your prayers! -- Mark, Aleta, Katelyn, Austin, and Josh

Pray for Joe and Kristin Bosman’s sister-in-law, Heather Bosman, who was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in August. Heather will have a follow up PET scan/MRI on Wednesday, December 4. Please pray that the chemo and radiation is working.

CHRISTMAS CAROLING & POTLUCK – Congregation you are invited to join us THIS Sunday, December 8, as we Christmas carol at designated locations in our area. We will be caroling to some of the elderly of Shalom at different nursing homes and retirement communities in the area. They will all be indoors! Meet at church at 4:30pm to be sent out to carol, and then we will join back at church at 6pm for a fellowship potluck. To properly organize the caroling locations, we do ask that you sign up ahead of time. Please do so by today Wednesday, December 4 by clicking here: http://bit.ly/33M4oZa LADIES DINNER OUT – Looking to expand your culinary pallet or try a new restaurant in Sioux Falls? Then join us for dinner Thursday, December 12. Dinner will be at Inca Mexican Restaurant located at 3312 S Holly Ave. Space is limited so please sign up before December 11 by clicking here: https://goo.gl/ev2PmB We will be eating at ethnic, non-chain restaurants in Sioux Falls, so if you are unable to make it this time, join us next time. All ages are welcome. If you have questions, please talk to Sarah Lieuwen. SENIOR AND FRIENDS - We will be meeting in the First CRC activity center on Saturday, December 14 at 10am. A catered brunch will be served at no charge. For reservations and/or cancellations, please call Joyce Christians at 351-9294 by noon on Monday, December 9. A musical program will be provided by Jacob Shoup, a local Christian artist and youth leader. The program will consist of variations of Christmas music, well known carols, and some possible audience participation.

CHILDREN AND WORSHIP will meet this Sunday, December 8 and will not meet on Sunday, December 15. Please check the Service Assignments section below for weekly greeter assignments. OUTREACH SIGN-UPS – All Outreach volunteer opportunities and sign-ups are listed under the Outreach portion of our website www.shalomcrc.org. Please contact Brendon De Boer if you have any questions. FURNITURE MISSION – Our next opportunity to serve at the Furniture Mission is December 7. There are many different jobs to be done: going out with delivery trucks for home deliveries and pickups, assisting clients at the Furniture Mission who come in to pick out their furniture, answering phones, and general cleaning. We meet at the Furniture Mission at 8:00am on each respective Saturday that we serve, and we are finished by 11:00am. To run the mission successfully each month, we are in need of 12-14 volunteers. Follow the sign up directions above to join in! MISSION HAITI – We will have 15 individuals from our church participating in our trip to Haiti in January. Please be in prayer for the preparation of all the hearts, minds, and bodies that will be traveling to not only represent our church, but to be the hands and feet of Christ and learn about Him while staying with our brothers and sisters in Ti Riviere. WORKERS ON WHEELS – Shalom’s assistance is needed for the vulnerable seniors in our community this winter! Val Lietz is the Director for Workers on Wheels and they have a program called “Adopt a Sidewalk” where volunteers help seniors with snow removal throughout the winter season. Currently, we have over 50 homeowners on our needs list and more are calling in each day. We only have enough volunteers committed to cover 20 homes! The volunteers need to have the snow removed within the City Ordinance time frame of 48 hours after the snow event for their assigned homeowner(s). Homeowners are assigned by the zip code or home/work address designated by the volunteers so you can literally be helping your neighbors and maybe even your church members in the 57103 zip code area. If Interested, please contact Val at her email address: [email protected] or call at 605-333-3307. FRIENDSHIP – We still have lots of opportunities to get involved and serve those who are in need of a spiritual mentor and friend! Email Brendon De Boer at [email protected] if you are curious, have questions, or are ready to get involved. “PEACE, PEACE” CHOIR PEOPLE - If anyone is interested in helping lead “Peace, Peace” for the Christmas Eve/Candlelight service, we will be meeting on Sunday, December 22 following the service to do a few run throughs.
