Brief synopsis of Othello

Othello is a highly esteemed general in the service of Venice. Othello promotes the medial Cassio to the position of personal lieutenant and Lago is dead jealous. Lago begins an evil and malicious campaign against the hero. Othello elopes with Desdemona but Lago starts to plot against them. Othello becomes jealous and suspicious of Desdemona

Desdemona is in a PvP conflict with Lago The conflict is between Lago and

Desdemona, as they are competing for the affections/time/attention of Othello

Main Conflict in Plot

Lago is jealous of Desdemona and Othellos relationship so devises an evil and malicious plan to destroy their relationship.

Structure of the plot

This drama is one of the great tragedy themed plays by William Shakespeare.

Othello is a highly esteemed general in the service of Venice.

Iago is Othello's ambitious friend. Othello promotes the Michael Cassio to the

position of personal lieutenant and Iago is deadly jealous.

Iago begins an evil and malicious campaign against the hero. Othello elopes with Desdemona but Iago starts to plot against them.

Structure of plot continued

Othello becomes jealous and suspicious of Desdemona. He confides in Iago that he plans to poison Desdemona.

Plots and murders ensue and Othello returns to the castle to kill his innocent wife.

He eventually smothers her to death. Emilia tells Othello the truth about the

scheming Iago. Othello wounds Iago, then kills himself.

Iago kills Emilia.

Desdemona at the start

Desdemona is a beautiful, young, white, Venetian debutante, her father's pride and joy.

But she refuses to marry any of the rich, handsome Venetian men that everyone expects her to marry.

Instead, she elopes with Othello

How does Desdemona change throughout the play

In the play Othello Desdemona changes quite a bit from the assertive heroine to a passive victim

Desdemona falls in love with Othello despite the words of her father

Desdemona at the END

Desdemona is murdered by Othello her husband.

On stage Othello normally smothers her with a pillow.

Othello feels that she is a liar and cheated on him with his ex-lieutenant Michael Cassio,

Who Othello believed was killed already by Iago.
