Visitors to the School Office
this week will have noticed a
new addition – a beautiful
Christmas tree!
This second tree (in addition to the
one given to us by the Christmas
Forest on Lavender Hill) has been
graciously donated by the London
Farmers’ Market and I am sure you
will agree Mr Imms has done a
fantastic job of decorating it!
We hope you have all been
enjoying our Farmers’ Market, held
every Saturday 10am – 2pm.
In addition to all your favourite
stalls and produce, why not support
your local market by popping along in
the run up to Christmas for some
fantastical festive produce?
With gorgeous Christmas wreaths and award- winning charcuterie on sale alongside
plenty of other festive goodies, you’re sure to grab a bargain or two!

The time has come for a little poem about our winter fete
It’s on Thursday 3rd
December (next week),
And friends, it’s going to be great
So come along for the chance to buy
Lots of goodies or even try
To win a raffle prize or bottle hamper
Have a cake or why not pamper
Yourself with Irish coffee, mulled wine
Relax, kick back and take some time
Make something nice, guess ‘What’s in the tin?’
Enjoy carol singing (and maybe join in...)
Have some fun before the rush
Get presents at our tombola to avoid the High Street crush
Don’t forget your child’s class make for you to take away
or miss your chance to see the guy who travels round the world by sleigh!
Yes Santa will be here, folks, in a twinkly magic grotto
COME ALONG TO OUR FETE after school
(You don’t want to miss our lotto)!
We are also very keen to receive donations of items
suitable for bric-a-brac and the raffle.
Thank you in advance.
The Winter Fete is NEXT WEEK!
We are desperate for volunteers to help
us prepare and to assist us on the day.
If you can help in any way,
please see Mrs Imms in the School Office.
Right of the Month:
Article 14
Every child has the right to think and believe what they want and to practise their
religion, as long as they are not stopping other people from
enjoying their rights.
Town Hall Cherubs This week, the first few groups of Reception
children went to Battersea Arts Centre to watch
the interactive festive show ‘Town Hall Cherubs’.
Helping a sleepy cherub to find his way home,
the children had great fun exploring the old town
hall building as they followed the Cherub’s
garland, discovering hidden rooms to play in and
plenty of surprises along the way. We hope you
all enjoyed yourselves!
Football This week the boys’ football team took part in the AFC Wimbledon Football Tournament
at Southfields School. Thanks to their excellent team work, the boys did extremely
well, only narrowly missing out on the top spot by just three points! Nevermind boys, Mr
Patterson is still incredibly proud of you and we are too. Next week, our sporting focus
switches to cricket, with our school team competing at the Oval. Don’t miss next week’s
Shaftesbury Update for a full match report!
Tennis On Tuesday 8th December, we look forward to welcoming Mark and Darren from the
Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative for some free tennis coaching. Please ensure that
your child brings their P.E. kit to school on this day. Many thanks!
Christmas Lunch Many thanks to Peter and the lovely kitchen staff for the wonderful Christmas Dinner
on Thursday. We hope that you all enjoyed it!
‘A Miracle in Town’ Foundation Stage Nativity For the last few weeks, children in Zebras, Tigers and Leopards
class have been extremely busy practicing for the upcoming
Foundation Stage Nativity.
With beautiful clear speaking from our narrators, lots of
memorable songs and some fantastic dancing, this is one
Christmas show you don’t want to miss! We look forward
to seeing as many of our Foundation Stage parents there
as possible.

Thursday 10th December is not
only our Winter Fete.
It is also Human Rights Day.
Human Rights are the inalienable and inherent rights we all have.
On this day every year we remember the importance of these Rights and the part
they play in helping to make our world a more just place for everyone.
Marking Human Rights Day is especially important in 2015, the fiftieth anniversary
year of the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of two treaties that,
together with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, form the International
Bill of Rights.
In spite of the passage of time, the International Bill of Rights is just as important
now as it was at its inception. Issues such as hate speech, religious and racial
intolerance and the failure to respect the right to privacy (especially in the digital
age) persist even now in 2015, despite the progress made over the last half a
century. This year’s motto - “Our Rights. Our Freedoms. Always." - serves as a
timely reminder that all people are entitled to these rights and the freedoms they
guarantee. The ‘always’ part of the motto reminds us that the struggle for Human
Rights to be recognised the world over is still ongoing. We must continue to
campaign until they are.

To mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December, we spent some time discussing disability with the children during our assemblies and circle time this week.
We were very pleased with the thoughtful comments made by the children on this subject. Miss Goodridge was especially impressed with what Shyanne in Sharks class had to say about how children with disabilities should be treated:
“It’s not right to pick on people who have disabilities because they are just like us but with a difficulty. We wouldn’t want to be treated in that way. You should respect and help people with disabilities because they can’t always do what we can. It’s important to talk about disability because you can come across it anywhere, sometimes you don’t even realise it as you can’t see all disabilities.”
Shoot to the Moon winners!
The best attendance and punctuality for last week!
