Shadows
Shadows occur when light shines on an object and the light does
not pass through. (opaque objects)
As Earth rotates sunlight shines on an object from different angles
The length and position of the object’s shadow changes through
out the day depending on the position of the sun
The shadow is on the opposite side of the light source
The Earth rotates from west to east, so shadows move the
opposite, east to west
Shadows start out long in the morning, growing shorter , at noon
shadows are shortest, afternoon shadows again grow longer and
longer
Remember1. Shadows are caused by the Earth’s
rotation.2. They change throughout the day
because of the angle of the sun.3. The Earth rotates from west to
east, so shadow move opposite from east to west.
