The inside of the Tabernacle was divided into two rooms—the Holy Place and the smaller Most Holy Place. The Ark of the Covenant was the only thing inside the Most Holy Place. The Holy Place contained three pieced of furniture—the golden lampstand, the altar of incense, and the table for the bread of the presence.

1. The golden lampstand was for light the inside of the tabernacle. The lamps burned all night.

2. The altar of incense was used for burning incense morning and evening. 3. The table for the bread of the presence held twelve loaves of unleavened bread for the

priests to eat. Fresh loaves were brought in every Sabbath. 4. Only priests could go inside the Tabernacle. 5. Only the High Priest could go inside the Most Holy Place, and only once a year.

Read Exodus 25:22. Why was the Ark of the Covenant (also called the “ark of the testimony”) so important?

The Most Holy Place in the Tabernacle was behind a blue, purple and red curtain with cherubim (angels) embroidered on it. This was a special place where only the high priest could go, following God’s instructions. Inside the Most Holy Place was just one thing—the Ark of the Covenant. The ark was a wooden box about the size of a teacher’s desk. It was overlaid with gold, inside and out. It had a cover, called the “Mercy Seat” made of pure gold. On the cover were two cherubim (angels) made of gold.

God was teaching His people how to worship while they journeyed in the wilderness. Why did God want the tabernacle to be built? To find out, decode the statements below. Look up the Bible verses if you need help.
