SHADOW CREEK RANCH
At the January 12 meeting of the Alvin ISD Board, Trustees approved Brad Butler as the Assistant Athletic Director/ Head Football Coach at Shadow Creek High School. Butler joins the Shadow Creek High School team by way of Manvel High School, where he served as the Assistant Head Coach/ Junior High Liaison.
“Butler’s experience in assisting to develop a successful program at Manvel High School will be beneficial in opening Alvin ISD’s third high school. He has been instrumental in developing both character and excellent citizens in our community, and we expect that his passion for education and sport will allow the development of an exceptional program at Shadow Creek High School,” said Allen Roberts, associate superintendent of human resources.
Butler has worked in the field of education since 1996 as a teacher and coach. He has been a member of the Alvin ISD family since 2006, when he joined the Manvel High School team. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University in Kinesiology and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M.

T h e A l v i n I S D Education Foundation will host the 15th Turtle R a c e o n Sa t u rd a y, February 20, 2016 at National Oak Park in Alvin. The day will start with a fun run at 9 a.m. sponsored by Kelsey Seybold, vendor booths opening at 10 a .m. and the Turtle Race at 12 noon. Community m e m b e r s , p a r e n t s , students and staff are all encouraged to adopt turtles for the race. All proceeds from the Turtle Race benefit the students and teachers in the Alvin ISD through Innovative Teaching Grants, campus grants, and scholarships for students, teachers and paraprofessionals. Turtles can be adopted for $5 by filling out an
adoption form, available at all Alvin ISD campuses, the Alvin ISD Central Administration Building, Alvin-Manvel Area Chamber of Commerce, YMCA of Alvin, Fun Jump, Alvin Community College and TDEC, Inc beginning January 26.
The day of the Turtle Race the adopted turtles will be taken to Mustang Bayou and gently dropped in from the bridge along the Tom Blakeney Hike and Bike Trail. The turtles will then “race” down the bayou to the finish line near the Adoue St. Bridge where they will be “scooped” out and the winners determined. The adopter of the first turtle to cross the finish line will win the first place prize of a travel voucher valued at $1,500 to a destination of choice. The first place prize is sponsored by Stantec. The second place prize is a $1,000 shopping spree sponsored by David and Tracy Vela, and the third place prize is an iPad valued at $500 sponsored by Ron Carter Automotive Dealerships. Seven other valuable prizes will be awarded to the adopters of subsequent turtles to cross the finish line. If weather does not permit the race to take place, a drawing will be held to determine winners.
Prior to the Turtle Race, the Foundation will conduct the 4th annual 5K Family Fun Run/Walk and 1K Kids Fun Run/Walk sponsored by Kelsey Seybold. The race will begin at 9 a.m. Individuals
Turtle Racewill receive a t-shirt for participating. The application can be found at signmeup.com.
Booth space is available for groups or individuals to sell or give away items, including food. Booths will be set up along the trail by the bridge. Members of the Nolan Ryan Band performed at the TMEA Region 17 All-Region Band Concert on Saturday, January 9th at Friendswood Junior High. After preparing scales and music during the Fall, the students auditioned for a place in the Region Band in November, then joined students from around the region for a Friday and Saturday rehearsal and concert. Nolan Ryan Junior High had the highest number of Region Band students out of all schools in the region.
