During the sampling of SH-M, we used various methods to treat the signal fromthe SH-1000: Some were treated by tape, some by high end pre-amps, sometotally clean and some processed with vintage pedals and effects. This wasdone to provide a wider range of tones and textures to greatly vary the soundsthat can be made, with SH-M.

SH-M is based on the Roland analogue synthesiser, and will enable you to create many of the analogue tones of the SH-1000.To install is easy. Simply unzip the zip file called SH-M.zip to an area on your computers hard drive.

If you have a specific drive which you use to store audio, then it is usually best practice to use that drive.

Please note: It is really important that none of the files contained within the folders are moved around to other locations; they have to stay where I have placed them. If the files are moved around it could cause afile not found dialogue when loading Presets.

To load a preset, click the Browse folder icon on the top row of Kontakt - This will open up the Browser window to the left left of the main Kontakt screen.You will see the various tabs called Files, Libraries, Database, Monitor, Modules and Auto.Select the Files tab and then navigate to the Presets folder inside the SH-M folder which is now on your

computers hard drive.

Click into one of the preset folders and you will now see the list of presets displayed in the bottom file browser window.

Loading a preset.

Now, all you have to do is double click one of the presets and this will load the preset, into Kontakt.

Once you have a preset loaded you can load the next preset by simply clicking the left and right arrow head pointersin the Kontakt window. (See image below)

To select another preset from another folder such as, Bass, you would click on the Bass folder and this will displaythe selection of presets in that folder. Again, just double click a preset and it will load into Kontakt.

Overview of Instrument.SH-M consists of 3 seperate parts: main synth(preset), main synth (raw osc) and arpeggiator and effects/control section.

The Presets section contains a sample library of sounds made with a real SH-1000. To select a new waveform, simplyclick in the waveform window, or use the up/down arrows.

The synth section of this instrument has a growl dial, which is basically another name for LFO. Growl is connected to thefilter cutoff and the speed of the LFO(growl) is controlled by the speed dial(when sync dial is not lit). It is possible to MIDI clockthe growl, by clicking on the sync L.E.D, and then selecting the speed, such as 1/16, 1/8 etc.

The Mod.Gen dials are used to control the rate of two LFO's. Tremolo and Vibrato are connected to these LFO's and you willnotice switches in the Tremolo and Vibrato areas for switching which LFO shape is applied to the effect.

SH-M has a random pitch generator which is connected to a dedicated LFO. The LFO speed is controlled by the speeddial (if sync is not lit). The LFO speed can also be MIDI clocked by pressing the sync button and then selecting 1/16 etc.

There is also a random patch generator. It is advisable to keep your monitoring at low levels when using the randompatch gen, because some sounds may be resonant.

Raw Osc Page.This is similar in operation to the Preset page, except the oscillators are activated by pushing the coloured tabs, andWhite/Pink noise dials above zero. These are the raw oscillators from a real SH-1000.

If the dials are set to the upmost position, they will switch off the voice for that OSC.

Why is this important?

Imagine you have a ADSR setting with a long release time, and you have all 8 osc's activated and white noise.This setup alone, would produce 9 voices if a single note was pressed. Now imagine you play a simple triad chord -this would now be 3 sets of 9 voices equaling 27 voices, for one triad. Now if you play a second triad, there would now be 54 voices playing - 27 new voices and 27 old voices fading away with a long release. Play some more chords and you can easily see the number of voices increasing, to high amounts.Combine this with Reverbs and tape plugins and effects and you can easilly cause a lot of cpu usage.I have allowed SH-M to be taken out of mono mode , but care should be taken whencreating patches because if all voices are running in combination with lots of LFO's etc, it can create high CPU usage.

Filter Cutoff can be modulated via the AMP ADSR envelope or by its own dedicated ADSR.To control filter cutoff via its dedicated ADSR, push the selector switch to position 2(see above).

The key range of SH-M is indicated by the green keys. The black keys to the right are used as Arpeggiator supportkeys - The last sampled notes have been stretched to C8 to allow the arpeggiator to be able to play when the 3 octave switch is active.

The effects page is used to apply various effects such as chorus, phaser etc. Each effect is activated by switching theeffects switches to the up position.

The arpeggiator has a 3 octave range which means if notes are played in the top octave, there are no natural samples from the SH-1000 that could cover this range. To provide some kind of work-around I have stretched the highest sample to span the full 8 octaves.

The SH-1000 is a monophonic synthesiser and in the interest of CPU usuage, it is best to keep SH-Mas a monophonic instrument. I have provided theability to switch this monophonic nature off, but care should be taken when using the raw osc sectionwith many tabs (voices active).
