The San Gabriel Valley Region Board of Directors will meet at about 7:00 PM at Scientific Motorcars,

1070 E Walnut St., Pasadena, CA 91106. All members are welcome but—if you can—please e-mail Jack

everyone. Note: the location and time may change.

September 2017, SGVR Big Bear-Oak Glen Tour

Enjoy sweeping turns and glorious mountain views. We’ll take Rim of the World Highway (Rt. 18) up to

lunch in Big Bear then Rt. 38 down to Oak Glen. Rt. 38 is Southern California’s least known, and

probably best driving roads. It’s also the highest.

This had been planned for Saturday, 23 September 2017 which is the day of the Arrowhead Porsche

Timeline. Maybe we’ll try Sunday, 17 September 2017 which is Drive Your 356 Day.

Next Monday, 22 May 2017, DUI Trial of Hyun Jeong Choi

After “trial call” on Friday, 17 February 2017, and “further proceedings” on Thursday, 23 March 2017,

more “Further Proceedings” have been scheduled for 1:30 PM 22 May 2017 and Felony Jury Trial for

9:00 AM on 22 September 2017 for Hyun Jeong Choi, 34. Ms. Choi is charged with second-degree

murder, gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI with drugs in the 27 March 2017 crash that killed 43-

year-old Amanda Walzer and left her fiancé, 49-year-old Jon Warshawsky, unable to care for himself due

to a brain injury. She faces 21 years to life in prison if convicted of all charges.

Warshawsky and Walzer were driving in his 1956 Porsche Speedster on Pomerado Road in Scripps Ranch

when Choi’s Toyota Corolla crossed a raised center divider and hit the Porsche head-on about 5:30 PM

on Easter Sunday. The “accident” is described at: Poway Patch, KUSI, Times of San Diego, and San Diego

Union Tribune.

The case number is SCD266279 in San Diego Superior Court, Central Division, County Courthouse in

Department 11, Judge David J. Danielsen—some updates are available at www.sdcda.org/case.

Hyun Jeong Choi has been held in the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee, CA since

28 March 2016—her bail was set at $ 3,000,000.

The Porsche 356 Club España has the pleasure of organizing the 42nd International Porsche 356 Meeting3

in Roses (Girona – Costa Brava) from 25 to 28 May 2017. They have prepared an amazing list of

activities to be carried out in the inspiring and refreshing scene of Costa Brava where they’ll discover

exciting corners and the land of the genius artist Salvador Dalí.

The deadline for registrations was 28 February 2017. It’s 1650.-€ [US$ 1738] per car, two people or

1100.-€ [US$ 1158] per car, one person.

Each year, car guys gather for the Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show. All Show proceeds

benefit the Boys Republic in Chino Hills. Over the years, over $1,000,000 has been raised for

A wide variety of cars, from Porsches to Mustangs, Cobras to Minis were there

celebrating Cool and driven to help kids. The 2017 show will celebrate The Sand

Pebbles.

Snell 2005 helmets are no longer allowed—you need Snell SA2010 or SA2015. Also, HANS devices (or

Targa California is about people joining together with their Pre-1976 model cars4, and enjoying the

automotive experience of back roads, special events, and like-minded people that love their cars - all in

the atmosphere of having fun without the pressure of competition. There is no set start or finish times

and ALL makes of cars are encouraged to enter, as long as they meet the spirit of the event.

The 2017 Targa California starts in Lancaster on 8 June 2017 and ends in Mammoth, CA with a “farewell

The eclipse will reach the west coast just before

10:20 AM PDT the day after the Pebble Beach

Concours d’Élégance. San Gabriel Valley Region

had a tour to the last solar eclipse (an annular

eclipse) in that area back on 20 May 2012.

In Zuffenhausen today, the one-millionth model rolled off the production line – a Carrera S in the special

colour “Irish Green”, with numerous exclusive features following the original 911 from 1963. The two-

door car remains the most strategically important model in the product range and makes a huge

contribution to maintaining Porsche’s position as one of the most profitable car manufacturers in the

world.

A one-off with historical accents

Painted in the special colour “Irish Green” and individually equipped with leather seats whose centres

feature the original pepita pattern from 1964, this unique car is reminiscent of Ferry Porsche’s first

official 911. The company founder had one of the first series cars with the chassis number 300.003

painted green, his favourite colour. He was presented with the car on October 19, 1964. In the 1965

model year, Irish Green was finally included as a new paint colour in the colour scheme, and can still be

ordered as an individual colour at Porsche today.

The anniversary vehicle features exclusive handmade seat covers as well as numerous other individual

details. The instrument cluster will feature the lettering “1,000,000 911” and the numbers and lighting

appear a shimmering green. The circular instruments have a silver surround, just as in the 1964

archetype, as does the Sport Chrono clock. Another unique finishing touch is the sports steering wheel

with a Porsche crest from 1964 on the hub. The handmade mahogany rim is reminiscent of the wooden

steering wheels that were still a must for sports cars in the 1960s. The crest on the bonnet is the same

crest that featured on the original 911. The wheel hub covers feature the “911” label. The PORSCHE logo

appears in white on the black-painted brake callipers and in gold on the rear lid. Badges with the

“1,000,000” logo (on the B-pillar on the exterior, on the dashboard trim strip in the interior) indicate the

special status of the anniversary model.

Gooding Moving Up Pebble Beach Auction to end before Concours

About San Gabriel Valley Region

San Gabriel Valley Region is part of Zone 8 of the Porsche Club of

America. We cover Los Angeles County south of a line drawn between

Oat Mtn. on the west and Mt. San Antonio on the east and east of Highway

#2 & N3 & north of I-5.

We support Foothill Unity Center. Now celebrating its 35th Birthday, Foothill Unity Center is a place of

real hope and possibilities for those impacted by poverty. Helping over 10,000 individuals almost every

year, Foothill Unity Center is the primary provider of food, case management/crisis help, and health care

resources across eleven San Gabriel Valley cities in LA County.
