HSC Body of Work Exhibition
On Tuesday, 4 September 2018, our school hall was transformed into an
amazing art gallery displaying the talent, dedication and effort of our 37 Year
12 Visual Arts students and their nurturing teachers. The Official Opening at
6 pm was well attended by the Director, Neighbouring School Principals and
staff, Year 12 parents and families, SGHS staff and peers from SGHS and local
schools. Ms Lyris, our Principal welcomed our guests and congratulated Year
12 students on their spectacular artwork. She also thanked the Year 12
teachers, Ms Papas and Mr Middleton for their support of the girls. Year 12
students mingled and proudly discussed their work and how their piece had
developed over the year. Representatives from each class thanked their
respective teachers and presented them with bouquets of flowers. Parents
were very proud of the achievements of their daughters and thanked the
teachers for their guidance and mentoring through the year. The artwork has
now been packed and submitted to NESA for marking. Congratulations to our
Visual Arts students for their tremendous major works.

HSC Music Soiree
Year 12 Music students held their audience captive when showcased their talent on the evening of Thursday, 6
September. All 8 Music 1 students performed in a range of modes from piano to vocal and drums while the 3 Mu-
sic 2 students performed magnificently on the piano. All performances were outstanding and evidenced just how
well- prepared the girls are for the HSC Music Practical exams next week. Many parents attended to support their
daughters and Ms Lyris thanked the parents, students and teachers for the treat of a wonderful performance
evening. Congratulations to all Year 12 Music students for their outstanding performances. We wish you all the
best in your practical examinations.

Week 8B Term 3 2018
On Sunday, 2 September, 5 students from Strathfield Girls High
School participated in the 49th Japanese Language Speech
Contest at the University of NSW. Da Eun Choi and Wonjeong
Yoo of Year 11 were in the Wakaba Division, which was for
beginner contestants. Kimaya Gadre, Megan Lam and Zaeema
Zameel were in the High School Senior division. They had all
written, edited, practised, and memorised their speeches.
On the day, they were a bit nervous and excited at the same
time. After the nerve wracking experience of delivering a speech
in another language, the food, over socialising with peers was
enjoyed. Our students were also able to participate in other
activities, such as Furoshiki wrapping.
The day ended with the award ceremony where everyone was
presented with a participation certificate. Da Eun Choi received
an excellence prize for the Wakaba Division. She was presented
with a medal and everyone shared a proud moment.
Well done to all our students.
Much to the delight of our students, Dinley Jones, the young
Sydney performer who recently premiered his debut single ‘Radio’
visited SGHS at part of his school tour 2018 initiative.
In an interview, Dinley revealed that he made “Radio” because he
“wanted to make something fun and silly, to make the people
dance! We wanted to put a smile on people’s face and hopefully
make their day just that bit better with this song. And in the best
case, inspire them to really be themselves without fearing how
other will perceive it.”
Thanks to Ms Wong for arranging this performance.

Our School Administrative Support Staff are the engine, the pulse of SGHS and we could not do the job that we do without their tremendous support! Our SASS colleagues are much appreciated, not only in this week, but all through the year. To thank them for all that they do- BIG and little- to make life easier and our school run smoothly and efficiently, we treated them to a morning tea on Thursday, lunch on Friday and a little token gift of appreciation.
Three cheers for our wonderful SAS Staff.

Week 7 Sports News STRATHFIELD PARK SPORT
A number of sports are held at Strathfield Park each week, and the students are actively engaged in all sports. Students participate in a round robin competition in Basketball and Netball. Representatives from NRL Limited and Cricket NSW teach the students the skills needed to participate in a game.
BStreetSmart The Program
The one-day program consists of morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session is focused on a motor
vehicle crash scenario, which includes the lead up to a car crash involving three young people and a motorcy-
clist. The scenario shows the interaction of the rescue services at a crash scene and the potential consequences
of being involved in a crash, and includes an insight into the patient’s journey through the hospital from the
emergency department to rehabilitation. Following the crash scenario, two presenters from the Brain Injury Unit
at Westmead Hospital – who have all suffered a traumatic brain injury as a pedestrian, passenger or driver of a
car – give talks about their experiences which are a powerful reminder of how trauma could affect anyone of the
participating students. There is then a discussion from TfNSW regarding safety on the road.
Following this there are 21 interactive displays for the students to participate in, and access current information.
The afternoon session of the program includes a guest speaker who has sustained a spinal injury due to a car
crash and a live demonstration of stopping distances.

Instructions for Sport Selection
Available sports are indicated in the list.
You must select a sport for Term 4, 2018.
Discuss sport options with your parents as they pay your fees!
In order to select a sport, you will need to make full payment for that sport only at the front office. This allows the school to be fair and equitable in regards to student numbers in specific sports.
Please note that payments made online may take up to two days to be processed and there is no guarantee that you will secure your sport selection as sports fill quickly.
Payments can be made from Monday, 3 September until Friday 14 September.
Students who do not pay and select a sport, will be allocated a sport.
Please note: You do not need to select a sport if you attend a Summer grade sport as a player or a coach.
