This is in addition to citations issued to motorists by officers on patrol. Officers at Central Station do an outstanding job. I would like to highlight the work of Foot beat Officers Sam Yuen and Howard Chu who are assigned to foot patrol in Chinatown in the evenings. Periodically, they will ride in a patrol car and conduct traffic enforcement. Here is an example of some of the work they did in October. Officer Sam Yuen issued 46 citations. 3 for red lights, 2 for failing to yield to a pedestrian, 16 for speeding, 23 for prohibited turns and 2 for other violations. Officer Howard Chu issued 23 citations, all for improper turns. These two Officers are making a difference in our community! Commanding Officer Central Station

Traffic Enforcement

In an effort to reduce collisions and educatemotorists regarding the dangers of improperdriving, we conduct regular focused trafficenforcement. This is in addition to citations issuedto motorists by officers on patrol.

Officers at Central Station do an outstanding job. Iwould like to highlight the work of Foot beatOfficers Sam Yuen and Howard Chu who areassigned to foot patrol in Chinatown in theevenings. Periodically, they will ride in a patrolcar and conduct traffic enforcement.

Here is an example of some of the work they did in October.

Officer Sam Yuen issued 46 citations. 3 for red lights, 2 for failing to yield to apedestrian, 16 for speeding, 23 for prohibited turns and 2 for other violations.

Officer Howard Chu issued 23 citations, all for improper turns.

These two Officers are making a difference in our community!

Community Presentations

This week I had the opportunity to meet and speak with the Nob Hill Association. Iapplaud them for their commitment to the community. I reminded them to remainsafe by not walking around with electronic devices such as “smart phones” in theirhands. We are seeing incidents where the suspects are robbing victims for theirphones. In addition to being a target for thieves, a person is distracted and notaware of their surroundings.

Pumpkin Give Away

Thanks to our partnership with the Chinatown Community Development Center, andthe Garden Project, we handed out 200 pumpkins to Ping Yuen Housing residentslast Friday, a day before Halloween. It was a great time (see photos).

Halloween in the Central District

It was a relatively calm Halloween in the Central District. It was nice seeing familieswalking with their children in the neighborhood all dressed up in costume. Therewere some great events on Saturday, such as the event at the Tel Hi Center as wellas the Ping Yuen and at the Willie Woo Woo playground on Sacramento Street.

Veteran’s Day Parade

This Sunday will be the first official Veteran’s Day Parade where the entire parade will take place in theCentral District. The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. at North Point and the Embarcadero.

Definitions

Robbery – Robbery is the taking of property from another by using force or by using fear.

Assault – An assault is an unlawful attempt, coupled with the present ability, to commit a violent injuryon another person.

Battery - (Misdemeanor battery) is any willful and unlawful touching of another.(Felony battery) is the use of force or violence upon the person of another that causes

serious bodily injury.

*Assault is when a person swings their arm and battery is when that arm makes contact withanother person.

Aggravated Assault – Assault upon another person with a deadly weapon or instrument other than afirearm or by any means of force likely to produce great bodily injury.

Burglary – The intent upon entry into a property to commit grand theft, petty theft, or any felony.

Grant Theft – Grand theft is theft committed when the value of the money, labor, or property takenexceeds $950.

Petty Theft – Theft where the value of the property taken is less than $950.

The suspect entered the store and stole a purse. The suspect wasconfronted by an employee outside the store. The suspect swungthe purse at the employee and punched the employee on theshoulder. Arrest made.

An unknown suspect grabbed the victim’s arm and tried to grab thevictim’s cell phone in her hand. The victim tried to pull the cell phoneback towards her, but the suspect pulled the cell phone from herhand and fled away.

An unknown suspect approached the victim as the victim walked outof the store. The suspect pushed the victim twice, took money fromthe victim’s hand and fled away.

The suspect and an unknown suspect pushed the victim from theATM she was using and held on to her. The unknown suspectwithdrew money from the victim’s account and fled away, but theother suspect did not leave. Arrest made.
