“Montana is the Tijuana of Canada…” - Lachlan the Bray

Lachlan the Bray, Australian spoken word artist, has teamed up with Bay Area poet and musician Garrett Riley to create a one of a kind performance of spoken word bedlam.

They explore what it means to live in the year, 2015AD. Why rent will cost you a kidney, why love is fleeting, how our dependence on pharmaceuticals will slowly kill us; and why each and every one of these things is beautiful. Accompanied by a musical trio, led by bassist Tyden Binsted, they tell a story befit for our befuddled generation.

Crowd and draw The show garnered full attendance (50+ people at each show) at Exit Theatre in the July production.

“This show is ahhhmazing and so much of what we need now in San Francisco!

Incredibly intelligent, funny, raw, honest to the point of tears (both through humor, tragedy, and sadness of the current environment of losing our space both queer,

artist, and political), activists, academics… go to the theatre this weekend!” - Kate Cabot, audience member

The production’s draw comes from a combined audience following from separate projects and has a total social media following of at least 3000 people. This includes fans from Red Lips + W productions, the Bay Area spoken word community, Hungry Skinny lovers and Royal Jelly Jive followers. The artists are confident in selling out small to medium size houses. (50-90 attendees) The Artists Lachlan the Bray Lachlan the Bray hails from Australia but now calls San Francisco home. At the age of 18, Lachlan was selected to take part in the Sydney Theatre Company's, Young Playwrights Residency. Off the back of this he successfully wrote and produced a musical comedy, Rivertown, which toured throughout regional communities on the east coast of Australia. Lachlan's writing shifted towards performance poetry in 2012 when he competed, and was a finalist in the Australian Poetry Slam. Since then he has continued to write, produce and perform shows both back in Australia and San Francisco. His Californian performance and theater credits include: The Dumbwaiter (Director) performed at the Unscripted Theater, This is Not Poetry (Writer/performer) at the Rabbit Hole Theater Company and Delicate Particle Logic (Assistant Director) for Indra’s Net Theater Company in Berkeley.

Garrett Riley

Garrett Riley is a California native and best known as the front man for the San Francisco based rock and roll band Hungry Skinny. Garrett started out singing musical theater in the suburbs of Southern California before making his way up the Californian coast and eventually stumbling headlong into San Francisco. He has since headlined shows at the Great American Music Hall, Slim’s and toured throughout the United States with Hungry Skinny. Poetry has

always been a part of him and if you have known him long enough, you’ll have noticed the scribblings and scratchings in that beat up old notepad in his back pocket. This is him, giving something back to the city that welcomed him all those years ago. Tyden Binsted Tyden began playing upright bass at age 15, almost immediately after hearing Thelonious Monk's composition "Off Minor" for the first time. After cutting his teeth with the great arranger Ray Brown and the experimental jazz trio Medeski Martin & Wood, Binsted moved to San Francisco and has been playing there and along the West Coast circuit steadily since 2009.
