The Centre culturel numérique Saint-Éxupéry organizes the 13th instance of the nuitnumérique
The nuitnumérique (digital night) is a multidisciplinary event about digital cultures. The
nuitnumérique will take place on March 12th from 6:00PM. to 1:00AM. It offers a
journey around artworks and installations with artists coming from all around the world. The
theme of the 13th instance is Mecathronics. It is also the opening of the expocollective (collective
exhibition) will take place from March 15th to May 28th 2016.
nuitnumérique#13 Saturday March 12th 2016 • 6:00 PM > 01:00AM • at Saint-Ex
expocollective from March 15th to May 28th 2016 • at Saint-Ex
Of the imagination of modern and contemporary technologies.
Mecathronics is a wide theme, which is often assimilated to pure technique. With the
democratisation of fablabs and digital tools that become more and more accessible to everyone,
artists develop their researches and productions even further. Their expertise changes them into
“handymen of modern times” in many fields. They are always ready to repel and call into question
the limits of the engines and technologies surrounding us to hijack them.
The artistic journey of the nuitnumérique is conceived around the exploration of different areas,
sound, picture, tool and its hijacking, light or movement.
Come discover these sensitive and playful artworks, with your family or friends, and take part in
the surprises, workshops and discoveries.

Kamiko • Canada, 2014 mixMotion Interactive installation
Kamiko is an interactive kinetic sculpture that responds to your presence by moving and changing its shape
and color. Unique and attractive, it creates an engaging interactive experience.
Kamiko is the result of mixMotion's experiments in designing modular systems for sculptural interactive
experiences. They created Kamiko's body using the geometry of the origami as inspiration. The body looks
and feels like paper but is actually a synthetic material that is resistant to tearing and moisture. It has a
microcontroller as a brain and sensors that can detect the presence of people around it. Kamiko moves using
a motor system and spans more than 3 meters in diameter when fully open.
Designer : Karlen Chang
Karlen Chang is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer. He is Co-Founder and Creative Director of mixMotion, Since 1995, Karlen has been exploring the intersections of art, design and digital technology to create emotionally powerful experiences. His work uncovers the emergent social relationships between people and interactive environments. mixMotion is a design firm specialising in experiential marketing, events and exhibitions. Their focus is on creating remarkable and engaging live/interactive experiences, which often incorporate the elements of interactive design/installations, live video (VJ) performances, and motion graphic design. Kamiko has already been exhibited around the world, including in Toronto (Canada) during a TEDx event. www.mixmotion.com/

In The Cloud with Lulu • France, 2014 Julien Levesque Interactive installation
In The Cloud With Lulu is a hanging mobile made of small clouds that move according to the rhythm of the
artist’s daily physical moves. The faster he moves, the more the clouds shake and wave. When he stands
still, the mobile comes to a stop as well. In The Cloud With Lulu thus allows us to have a glimpse on the physical activity of a person when he/she is
not there, as a way to feel a little closer to the loved one. Thanks to that mobile, little Lulu can sleep tight.
For several years, Julien Levesque regularly includes Internet as a material in his work. He invents interactive devices that question in a playful and critic ways our contemporary reality. Through various medias (Internet, photography, video, edition), this artist changes data sometimes with humour and poesy, sometimes with distance and critic, in order to explore the information landscape that surround us. His artworks are midway in the web and offline, questioning at the same time the boundaries that separate them. His work has already exhibited many times in Show Off and in the Gaîté Lyriquefotr Futur en Seine, likewise to Variation Media Art Fair, to the 18th Japan Media Arts Festival, to the Biennale Update_4 of Bruxelles or in the Centre Pompidou for DCODD.

Mantha • France, 2016 Bastien Mairet & Sami Afilal Interactive installation
A machine to observe, to meet, to tame…
This hybrid form is several meters high. It is the result of Bastien Mairet’s artistic researches about the
animality of machines. With Sami Afilal’s help, this young artist and designer living in Reims rises to the
challenge to give life to a huge machine. They invite you to control it and transform its luminous skin.
In co-production with the association Velours, Mantha will later become the emblem of the Boom Bap
Festival in Reims (23 April > 1er May 2016).
Young alumni of ESAD, the school of design of Reims, Bastien Mairet works on automatons, moving objects and robotics. He has created among other things design items mixing clockmaking and sensibility, which were exhibited at the Grand Palais and edited by Bernard Chauveau. He also realizes scenographic installations as the conception and the realization of a scientific banquet in the Halles de Boulingrin in September 2014, mixing food and air guns in order to imagine a speech about food during WWI. www.bastienmairet.com

Machines à réaction en chaîne • France, 2015 Cie Mister Fred Mecanical installations
For its last performance, the company built several mecanisms in the style of Rube Goldberg’s machines.
Their principle is the realisation of a simple task in a deliberately complex way, often thanks to a chain
reaction.
Come discover their funny and offbeat universe.
The troupe Mister Fred was created in 2004 with the comedian/juggler Fred de Chadirac. It aims at bringing a new point of view about juggling and clown thanks to a staging between cirque and theatre. It highlights burlesque forms, near to a black-and-white movie, where extravagant characters evolve. Its particularity is the development of juggling with objects : brooms, newspapers, plastic bag, suitcases...

Sensing colorspace • Germany, 2014 Sonice Development Interactive robotic installation
Sensing Colorspace is an interactive robotic installation documenting the acoustic events of its surrounding.
Visitors call the device actively by clapping and thereby influence the robots route. They record their
interaction and inscribe their presence to the wall. Events and lines overlay steadily and modulate
the appearance of the colorspace– a continuously evolving system.
Sonice Development invents and builds robotic installations. They work on a coherent beauty of imperfection, by linking both worlds – the digital and the material. Sonice Development creates programs and rules which realize themselves in robotic systems. These kinetic animations are focussed on their “being“ and behaviour. The currently visible is always the coming alive of systemic rules. All their works have a relationship to the architetural environment. They are often specifically made for the sheer location to affect the people they come into contact with. Sonice Development has already exhibited in Blooom Art Showi in Cologne, in Musrara Mix Festival in Jérusalem, in the exhibition « Red Never Follow » in the galery Saatchii of London, in the Colab Gallery, Weil am Rhein, in St. Gallen fpr the Museum Night and to Metropol Park in Berlin.. Recently, they were invited in the Festival Maintenant of Rennes. A first Sensign Colorspace’s installation can be seen at 10th floor of the 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin. www.sonicedevelopment.com
▷ ▷ Sensing Colorspace will also be exhibited as part of the expocollective until May 28th 2016.

Lightbox Sequencer 2.0 • Holland, 2008 Jonas Vorwerk Interactive audiovisual installation
Come learn today’s electronic music with the sound and light show of the installation Lightbox Sequencer 2.0 !
By exploring the functions of the boards, you will produce unconscious sounds. They will change depending
on your interactions and progressively you will create a true musical harmony. Finally, several players can
fill the space with various sounds ; in this way, these sounds will communicate and respond to each other.
Therefore, you will create music.
Jonas Vorwerk is a multimedia Dutchman artist. He creates environments where digital dreams and real experience are connected. His installations often explore the idea of repetition, interaction, chance or changing. He works mainly with new technologies, light, music and space with the intention of exploring new dimensions that digital world can create in the physical space. Thanks to his own engagement in the electronic music scene and his engineer formation, he draws his inspiration from popular culture. Jonas Vorwerk’s artworks were exhibited to STPR, to the Dutch Design Week, to Motel Mozaique, to Amsterdam Light Festival, and many others. www.jonasvorwerk.nl
