Sevlievo is a town in north-central Bulgaria with population of

25 000 people

The Clock Tower is one of the

oldest buildings in the town of

Sevlievo. It was built in 1777 and

the clock is still working! The

Russian troops were welcomed

near the tower on the Liberation

day of Sevlievo in 1877and later a

memorial plate was placed on the

tower wall in their honour.

The Tower is located near the

centre of the town.

The Monument of Freedom is in the center of Sevlievo. Its pillar is an original stone column from the Roman town Nikopoluis ad Istrum. The project's authors are OtoHoreishi and the Italian sculptor Arnoldo Tsoky. The bronze figure was made in Vienna.

The stone bridge over the

Rositsa River is one of the

most impressive symbols of

the town of Sevlievo. It is a

masterpiece of master Kolyo

Ficheto. The contruction of

the bridge began in 1857 and

ended in 1858. The bridge is

110 meters long.

The building was built in

1844. It was the first school in

Sevlievo. After the liberation

day, modern schools were

built and now the building is

used for a museum. You can

see a lot about the history of

Sevlievo there.

The Art Gallery of Sevlievo is

housed in a building dating from

1878 and it is built by an

Austrian architect. The gallery is

named after the brothers Asen

and Iliya Peykovi - famous

artists, born and grew up in

Sevlievo and worked in Italy.

The gallery was opened on June

27, 2008 on the occasion of 100

anniversary of Assen Peykov.

Ruins of the medieval town-

fortress Hotalich are located 4km

north-west from Sevlievo. The

fortress was built by the

Byzantines in the V century. In the

10th century, Bulgarians decided

to use the place for the

construction of a defense facility.

It protected the country from

barbaric assaults from the north.

The excavations of medieval town

of Hotalich and the fortress

started for the first time in 1981.

Sevlievo is also known as the

town of pumpkins. In the

middle of October, there are

celebrations all over the town.

You can visit a lot of exhibitions

and concerst. Children go on a

parade around the town dressed

in pumpkin costumes. There is

also a fair.

Sevlievo motocross track is one of

the best in the world. The track has

won various awards as the best

organised event, from the FIM, and

is one of the newer tracks around.

Using the natural terrain they’ve got

a couple of uphill and downhill

sections, making it super cool to ride.
