DIVINE WISDOM

The Lord’s message, through Moses, was to “take no revenge and cherish no grudge . . . love your neighbor as your-self” (Leviticus 19:18). We might think, “Great in theory, but not always realistic!” Then Jesus in today’s Gospel goes even further. Take a slap in the face and then turn the other cheek? Treat enemies the same as friends? Again, we’re tempted to think that those are nice ide-als, but not very practical in the “real world.” Paul echoes Jesus when he tells the Corinthians that what passes for human wisdom is absurdity to God. Divine wisdom casts sunshine on the good and the bad, showers rain on the honest and the dishonest—without distinction. We must exam-ine our wisdom and common sense to see how they compare to the wisdom of God, and make adjustments accordingly. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

PRAYER CHAIN If you would like to place someone on the prayer chain, please call Grace Nelson at 754-4209 or email [email protected] or call the Parish Office with your intentions.

Today, our parish will take up the 134th an-nual National Black and Indian Mission Col-lection. Our support of this collection helps build the Church in African American, Native American, and Alaska Native communities from coast to coast, including our diocese, which received $5,000 from the Black and Indian Mission Collection last year. Schools, parish religious education programs, and

diocesan ministries depend on your generosi-ty to help them spread the Gospel of Jesus

Christ! You can help meet unmet needs with a generous contribution today. Thank you for

your support.

WELCOME ANDRES! We welcome Andres Orozco, a new Seminarian, to St. Rose of Lima. He will assist with weekend Masses and help out at St. Rose School on Mondays. Tuesday through Friday, Andres will return to his home in Seattle where he is an Uber driver. He comes to us from Bogota Colombia and has completed three

years of his Seminarian studies thus far. He enjoys reading and going out for a jog. Please help us make him feel at home in our

community!

FAT TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER YLI will be putting on a pancake supper for Fat Tuesday on February 28th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the St. Rose School Gym. The delicious menu will also include ham, scrambled eggs, fruit and cinnamon rolls! The cost will be $6 per per-son or $25 per family, with all proceeds going towards the

Seminarians Fund.

THANK YOU LADIES OF FUNERAL MIINISTRY Thank you to all the ladies who have helped with the many funeral receptions that we have had over the past months. Thank you to the crews who help set up and clean and thank you to all who have donated food. Please don’t forget to check the back room in the Parish Center because there are many dishes and Tupperware

items that still need to be claimed.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL Don’t forget there will be a meeting for Council members on Tuesday the 21st at

6:30 pm. Members will meet in the Parish Office as usual. Thank you for faithfully serving the Lord!

ALTAR FLOWERS The flowers for the altar this week were donated by Mel and Judi

Woods in loving memory of a special grandchild born to heaven and for all the other precious babies that have been born to heaven. If you would like to provide altar flowers, please contact the Parish

Office. The cost is $50.

WHY DO WE HAVE A FEAST DAY FOR THE CHAIR OF

ST. PETER? The feast of the Chair of St. Peter has nothing to do with a piece of furniture. The “chair” symbolizes the authority of St Peter and his successors who have served the Church of Jesus Christ as the Bishop of Rome (the Pope). As a matter of fact, in Rome’s St. Peter’s Basilica, there is a chair, enshrined in the sump-tuous Altar of the Chair of St. Peter by the great architect Bernini, but it is a symbol representing the 2,000-year-old papacy and unity the Pope contin-ues to bring to Catholics around the world. Without such unity the Church would splinter into numerous sects and divisions. So, every year on Feb. 22, the Church cele-brates the continu-ing role of the Pope, the Vicar of Christ, beginning with St Peter. -excerpt from an arti-cle in Our Sunday Visitor by D.D.Emmons titled “The Throne of Truth”

Quinceañera Classes Classes begin this Thursday at 6:00 pm, in the Parish Office. Please call the Office to register if you have not done so!

Thank you!
