After working very hard throughout the term to create top quality samples of work for inclusion in their portfolios of work, students enjoyed the opportunity to take their guests on a tour of the school to visit their different classrooms and view their work on display. A day such as this gives the students an important learning opportunity. They see that the effort one puts in directly relates to the result one achieves. Many parents commented on the amazing artworks displayed in the art exhibitions up around the campus as well as the creative drama activities, which is testament to the specialist teaching approach at Reddam. The computer room always draws great crowds where children could log onto their profiles and show their parents what they have created in their computer lessons. The music performances which ended the day were, as always, wonderful. Thank you to you all for your support of this special day in your child’s life. Seussical Jr, the Year 3 – 6 musical sensation is rearing ahead. Tickets are now available for purchase on www.ticketek.com.au. Tickets are $30 and are selling fast so be sure to book soon to avoid disappointment. The shows will take place on Monday, 16 and Tuesday, 17 September at NIDA Parade Theatres on Anzac Parade. The children have been preparing incredibly hard for this show and the orchestra is now rehearsing with the cast w hich is the penultimate step in this production. Sunday will see the students’ dress rehearsal in Adelaide Hall which is always very exciting. This show is definitely not one to miss! Next week, on Monday night, we see the Evening of Eminence take place in Adelaide Hall. This HSIE evening showcases the students’ study of an eminent person and, through a display station and dress-up clothes, the students will educate the guests about their person of choice. Having seen a great deal of the work being put into the evening, I am sure that it will be a tremendous success. This is a special time of year for the Jewish families in our school who will be cele- brating Rosh Hashanah, the New Year. I would like to wish then Shana Tova and hope that they enjoy the time with their families over the next few days. Dee Pitcairn Principal

It was the Kindergarten teachers turn to puff out our chests and burst with pride this week. What a re-warding experience to see the excitement and pride on every students’ face as they presented their year’s portfolio to their parents. When they first got to view it, there were shrieks and laughter at how funny or messy their writing was, and how they couldn’t do much! They took portfolio day much more seriously and delighted in showcasing their progress and how smart they had become to their par-ents. They presented their drama lesson with confidence, showed off their skills with computers and beebots, and proudly displayed their artworks. We are looking forward to adding term 4’s work to their portfolios to make it a complete collection of their Kindergarten year.

We have been doing lots of work on Australian animals over the last couple of weeks. We have done research, written reports and created displays. Crosscurricular learning aids in the process of making thinking skills more explicit in different learning contexts and this has definitely been the case with 1R. 1R was lucky enough to get a new student last week! His name is Roen and he is from America. Roen has an older brother and sister, who are also at Reddam House. He enjoys playing soccer after school and loves our playground facilities. He has settled in so beautifully thanks to the help of his buddies: Edan, Sam and Finn. These boys have been so fantastic at making Roen feel welcome and the teachers are extremely proud of them. Welcome Roen!

Year 2 Maths is engaging and meaningful. We work in pairs, small groups, as a whole group and in-dependently. We draw, play, explore, investigate and manipulate materials to explore new concepts and reach conclusions. Here are some examples of some of the concrete materials, toys and games and activities Year 2 has enjoyed participating in in recent Mathematics lessons.

Portfolio Day was a special day for Year 3. The students proudly shared their magnificent samples of work, and the parents beamed with pride to see the wonderful academic progress that has been made this year. It was also a great opportunity for the families to see the beautiful art work created by the children and watch a fun display of their drama lessons. I like doing the drama lesson and it was fun to read my folder with my dad. Amira Shields It was fun having my mum here to show her all my work. Noah Paver It was great to see my mum at school. Luca Cantwell I was so happy that my parents came to see my folder and my work. Kaitlin Unkrich. My mum was so proud of my folder and my work. Alex Azzi

September, 5 and 6 2013 is the two-day Festival of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year that begins at sunset on Wednesday evening. To celebrate Rosh Hashanah, you could go to the synagogue, listen to the shofar, reflect on your past and your future and also eat apples dipped in honey and challah (a round loaf of bread that signifies the cycle of the year). In the synagogue, you could be asked to wear a head covering called yarmulke or kippah. Eating of the apples signifies the hope for a 'sweet' new year. The Jewish New Year is cel-ebrated with family gatherings and prayer. We would like to wish all the Jewish family and friends around the world a healthy, happy and prosperous new year filled with joy and laughter. As you sit surrounded by loved ones take the time to count your blessings. Happy New Year.

We are excited to announce that tickets for the Year 3 – 6 production of ‘Seussical Jr’ are now available for purchase through www.ticketek.com.au for $30 each. There will be two performances of the show at NIDA Parade Theatres on Anzac Parade, Kensington. The first performance is on Monday, 16 September and the second on Tuesday, 17 September. Tickets will sell out fast so don’t hesitate in securing your seats for what promises to be a master-piece.
